  • Were you able to watch and understand the concepts of the orientation?*
  • A Safer Space Monitor checks to make sure guests are practicing "safer sex" .*
  • The Safer Space Monitors goal is to help ensure event spaces are safer by observing the space, reminding guests of policies (Soft Touch), and report to supervisors when there are issues to resolve (Hard Touch).

  • "CAPP" is something worn by an SSM when they are "on duty".*
  • "CAPP" is an acronym for the Consent Awareness Policy Program video that all event attendees watch before attending. The video serves as a valuable resource to ensure everyone is well-informed about consent and boundaries.

  • Should guests be allowed to carry on loud/disruptive conversations in play/fantasy areas?*
  • Quieter spaces allow an SSM to listen for, and hear potential issues in play/fantasy spaces. Therefore an SSM should remind guests to use a soft, sensual tone in plays areas. Those who refuse to respect the rules repeatedly should be reported to a supervisor.

  • An SSM can engage in lengthy conversations with guest while observing their areas.*
  • SSM's should focus on being visible and available. Conversations with guests, and in between staff will be a distraction. It also signals to guests that you may be "too busy", or don't care to hear about their issue(s).

  • Can impaired people give consent?*
  • Those that are obviously impaired cannot give proper consent. If it is obvious that someone is impaired in some way, it should be reported immediately to a supervisor. Only authorized event staff will interact with the person, and make a determination about their ability to consent.

  • Should SSM's personally handle visibly impaired guests?*
  • Impairment concerns are "Hard Touches" and should only be reported to, and handled by a supervisor.

  • Should SSM's remind guests about the dress code?*
  • While events will have various policies, SSM's should only be giving reminders about consent and other issues that can have adverse effects on guest safety or experience. Having SSM's remind guests about all event policies can serve to undermine the effectiveness of their presence.

  • Consent only needs to be asked one-time.*
  • Consent is on-going and should always be discussed. Consent is generally given for specific activities. It is possible to negotiate parameters in advance and may not require constant consent conversations during a scene. If there is a concern, based on observations, then an SSM should contact a supervisor immediately.

  • Single Track Behavior™ is when someone follows someone around an event.*
  • While "creeping" can be a sign of Single Track Behavior™, "Creeping" can sometimes be mistaken for guests who go on "perv walks". Being a voyeur is encourage provided it is done respectfully

Single Track Behavior™ can come in various forms, so be aware of anyone who appears to be overly aggressive about having sex, or tries to insert themselves, without consent, into encounters that are already underway.

Report any behavior that seems potentially unsafe and a supervisor will make an assessment and determination.

  • Confrontational behavior is ok, as long as it's between two people in a relationship.*
  • It is never "OK" for guests to be aggressive, confrontational or engage in fighting at an event. If an SSM observes any "aggressive" behaviors, it should be reported to a supervisor immediately.

  • SSM's should handle "Hard Touches" in certain cases.*
  • The first thing an SSM does when they witness any "Hard Touch" behavior is to make contact with a supervisor. The supervisor will decide how the situation is to be handled.

  • An SSM can help clean if things get too busy?*
  • An SSM has three mandates while an event is underway, to Observe, Remind and Report™. An SSM may be asked to assist in other duties before an event has started, and after an event has ended.

  • Can SSM's share information with guests about issues with other guests.*
  • Privacy and confidentiality are important so the sharing of information with guests is strictly forbidden. Sharing information outside of authorized staff will result in expulsion from the Safer Play Spaces Program.

  • Should be Empty:
