  • OVERVIEW

    The QELA Mentor Program aims to support early career professionals engaged in planning and environmental law as they navigate their career, and assist and encourage those aspiring to reach senior professional or leadership positions.

    The Program pairs an early career professional with a more experienced professional who can provide advice and support.

    Participation is open to all professions engaged in planning and environmental law in Queensland, including but not limited to lawyers, barristers, town planners, environmental consultants, engineers, property valuers, and government officers.

    The 2024 QELA Mentor Program operates over a nine month period, from March 2024 - November 2024. 

     

    MENTEE ELIGIBILITY

    • Mentees should be early career professionals with less than five years experience.
    • Mentees may also be university students, in their final year of study.
    • Mentees may be ‘change of career’ professionals who have undertaken new or further study in a planning and environmental law profession, and are embarking on their career in a planning and environmental law professions.
    • Mentees must have willingness to initiate meetings and seek input from their mentor.
    • Mentees must be current financial members of QELA.

    • Mentees will pay a fee of $200 including GST for participating in the QELA Mentor Program.  This fee includes attendance to a Meet & Greet event on 6th March 2024, Brisbane CBD and the mid program networking event on the 10th of July, Brisbane CBD.

    • PROGRAM COMMITMENT

      • In applying for and entering into the QELA Mentoring Program it is understood that the Code of Conduct, as outlined in the QELA Mentor Program Handbook, is to be adhered to.

      • Participants will complete the application form honestly to enable the the matching of mentees and mentors to be as successful as possible.

      • Confidentiality and privacy of the mentoring partnership will be strictly adhered to.

      • Participants will enter the mentoring partnership with a commitment to assist each other to develop and learn in an environment that will support honesty, fairness and respect.

      • There will be no bullying, abuse or misconduct on the part of the mentor or mentee.

      • Participants will honour agreed to mentorship program commitments, including preparation for meetings, and clearly communicate any changes to routine.

      • If the mentoring relationship is not working for any reason, QELA will be notified immediately to ensure that the matter is addressed. If the mentorship is not successful there is a ‘no fault’ process for ending a mentorship between a mentee and mentor.
