  • BRC PETROL - 2026 Fuel Request Form

Fuel registration closes: March 31st for camp delivery requests, and May 15th for fuel station pickup and deliveries to art projects.
  • The BRC Fuel Program is for registered Art Projects, Mutant Vehicles and Theme Camps with higher volume needs, as well as registered support vehicles (including Mobility, Art, OSS, Staff). It is not available for passenger vehicles, RV’s, and open-camping participants - these groups should plan to bring in their fuel as in the past. This fuel safety program is intended to reduce the amount of traffic transporting large loads of fuel into the event as well as reducing the need for large fuel storage in camps.

There will be no account registrations on-playa
except in the case of accessibility vehicles.

IMPORTANT: The BRC Fuel Program has limited number of generators it can service per day. There will be a cut off for fuel delivery once the program has reached capacity. This does not apply to fuel pickup at Hell Station.

Not sure exactly how much fuel you will need? No worries, provide your best estimate. This helps to determine how much fuel and the number of delivery trucks we will need for this year's event. Your account records from the previous year are available in your Gravity Payments portal.

REVIEW HUBS before you start this application. HUBS (Humans Uniting for Better Sustainability) is a resource-sharing system first introduced in 2022 to help camps plan and share resources such as power grids to support Burning Man Project’s goal to handle waste ecologically, be regenerative, and be carbon negative by 2030.

Art Projects: Dyed diesel is available for delivery to Art Projects with large diesel powered generators that will take 30 gallons or more per delivery and have clear access.  For small diesel or gasoline generators you can fill-up your approved fuel containers (with secondary containment) at Hell Station and transport them back to your Art Project. Propane is only available for delivery to Art Projects on the open playa, the Esplanade, 2:00, and 10:00 roads for tanks of 100 lb. or greater capacity, and cylinders of 25 gal. or greater capacity that have clear access.  Smaller cylinders can be filled at the Hell Station during normal hours of operation and transported back to your Art Project.

Mutant Vehicles: Mutant Vehicles must fill-up at Hell Station during normal hours of operation.

Theme Camps: Dyed diesel is available for delivery to Theme Camps with large diesel powered generators that will take 30 gallons or more per delivery and have a minimum run time of 30 hours. In order to be fueled, your generator must be no more than 20’ away from your frontage street with a straight access for the fuel hose from a Lettered/Numbered Street. Generators may be located on 20’ fire/servicing lane in limited cases and with pre-approval. Fire/servicing lanes must not include any sharp turns or corners, trucks must be able to pass straight through without turning around or backing up. For small diesel or gasoline generators you can fill-up your approved fuel containers (with secondary containment) at Hell Station and transport them back to your camp.

Two generators per camp are included with this program. Camps with more than two generators will require further review.

Fuel Drums: There will be a limited number of 50 gallon drums of gasoline and diesel available for theme camps.  A max of 2 drums or 110 gallons can be stored in the camp at one time as per safety regulations. Camps with diesel generators that may not last 30 hours between delivered fills can request drums of dyed diesel as backup in case the generator needs topping off before their next delivery. The fuel drum option is also good for camps with small gasoline generators or clear diesel reefers. Drums are not available for filling mutant vehicles in camp, those should fill up at Hell Station. There are additional safety requirements and fees for fuel drum delivery. Secondary containment systems and pumps are the responsibility of the camp and further information will be supplied to those who are approved for fuel drum delivery.

Requesting Delivery?: We will review the Theme Camp map before confirming any delivery services. You are REQUIRED to provide a Theme Camp map that clearly marks fuel assets and delivery access roads. This year your camp map will be collected via your Placement application. We will contact you for map revisions if your layout does not adhere to the delivery requirements, and final acceptance into the delivery program hinges on an approved map.

Guidelines can be found on the following pages:

    FUEL AND HAZMAT STORAGE
    BRC CAMP LAYOUTS

Minimum delivery amount and generator size applies during event. Propane is available for delivery if criteria has been met, including meeting with onsite technician.

  • NOTE: If your rental generator is required to go out full, the PETROL team will be making rounds to McKinley Park where vendors stage generators to be shipped out. This can save you exorbitant refueling fees from generator companies, and it allows us to refuel in a centralized area. Often times this means that you may see a final Fill Charge up to Thursday post-event.

As always, if you do not want to receive any more fills during or after event, you should clearly mark this on your generator.

  • UNDERSTANDING FUEL TYPES

Below, you will be able to estimate your fuel needs. Please note there is a difference between the two diesels we offer. While their chemical makeup is the same and will work in any diesel engine, a red dye is added by the distributor to turn clear diesel into dyed diesel. Clear diesel and gasoline are charged an additional tax per gallon for road maintenance. Dyed diesel is not charged a road tax and can only be used in equipment that is not driven on public roadways. The red coloring in the diesel dyes the vehicle's fuel filters and can be swabbed by law enforcement agencies to determine current or prior use of this off-road fuel.

Utilizing dyed diesel in a vehicle that operates on public roadways is illegal and carries a fine, not just for the user but also for the distributor.

We recommend dyed diesel for all generators, heavy equipment, reefers that are not run by a road engine, and mutant vehicles that are not to be driven on public roadways.

The BRC Fuel Program delivers very little clear diesel as most of our delivery trucks only carry dyed diesel.

  • Fuel Drum Request

For fuel drum requests we prioritize small gas generators, small diesel generators, and reefers. There are additional safety requirements and fees for fuel drum delivery. There are a limited number of fuel drums available. Fuel drum requests will be prioritized by need and at the discretion of BRC PETROL.

  • SECONDARY CONTAINMENT

As per event regulations, secondary containment is required for all single wall fuel containers. If you do not have a proper containment unit for your fuel drum (110% of the total capacity of the fuel containers), the BRC Fuel Program does offer rentals.  Indicate below if you need to rent containment.

  • A BRIEF SURVEY

As our organization moves forward with its goal to reduce the carbon footprint at our event, we are branching into renewable fuel options for our infrastructure needs. We would like to hear what level of interest your group has in utilizing renewable fuels instead of petroleum based fuels.

Learn more about the renewable diesel option that we piloted for infrastructure last year.

  • Thank you!

BRC PETROL will follow-up as you register, with final reviews by late-July:

    1. To review Theme Camp Layout map w/ generator placement
    2. To discuss and clarify fuel requests
    3. Pre-approval of fuel account

BRC PETROL will follow-up in early August:

    1. To provide final approval of account registration (after potential changes/updates)
    2. To collect copies of identification to be matched on playa
    3. To obtain a credit card to keep on file for fuel payments

In order to activate your account on playa, either the Project Lead, the Fuel Lead or the Payment Contact will need to come to the Hell Station with identification (license or passport) and credit card to verify they are the account holder and designate the assets to be charged to their account. When assets are being registered in Camp the same procedure will take place, no proxies will be accepted. Copies of identification will be logged on account activation. Only the credit card holder, Project Lead and Fuel Lead will be allowed to designate assets to charge to the account. Keep this in mind when choosing your Fuel Lead.

Account activations must take place on playa THE DAY BEFORE you want your first fuel delivery so it can go on the next day's schedule, we suggest you come earlier in the day. Your generator must be placed in its final location before you come to Hell Station to activate your account. This allows our Field Registration team to tag your generator with a sticker and geo-location for our routes. We will not begin fueling your generators until you come to Hell Station and tell us that you are ready for fueling.
