Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office - Educational Opportunities

Available educational experiences:

Call: Phone call or Teams meeting with one of our medical examiners. (30-minutes)

Shadowing: half-day experience shadowing a medical examiner during an autopsy examination.

Medical Student Rotation: 2-week or 4-week rotation at the Medical Examiner’s Office which includes observation and education alongside medical examiners during autopsy examination, observation and education alongside medicolegal death investigators at death scenes, and assigned reading on topics in forensic medicine.

Pathology Resident Rotation: 4-week rotation at the Medical Examiner’s Office which includes training and education in the performance of forensic autopsy examination including evisceration technique, postmortem histology, and interpretation of ancillary studies. Also includes observation and education alongside medicolegal death investigators at death scenes and assigned reading on topics in forensic medicine.
