Summer Youth Development Background:
With a strong vision to build up next generation as passionate leaders, Peoples Gospel Church is excitingly planning our children and youth summer outreach and development with youth & children ministries from May to August 2024.
We are hiring ONE(1) Community Programs Director this year. He or she will be the one who creates and develops a vibrant and impactful children and youth development program that builds up young lives. This candidate will be mentored and supervised by the Family Pastor of PGC and closely working with 2 other pastors who are also building up young people.
Summer is a leadership and community building engine in our ministry. This is a strategy aiming to invest in young people's lives through the existing resource of our church community so we can build a healthy, uplifting and serving group of young people who will be modelled to love children and youth.
Our vision is to create community building strategy to achieve a three-fold purpose of
1. Building a group of post secondary youth leaders (Youth Development Coordinators) to transform community. You will get to know them, guide and empower them through this summer project with quality and meaningful project for growth of their own and that of the younger team they will be leading.
2. Ensure these coordinators to passionately develop a summer ministry for building Grade 6-12 youth team, so that they will become passionate and capable leaders to make an impact on younger children that reflects Christ's love for all people
3. Building up children spiritually by enjoying a fun-filled Bible camp experience led by Christian youth and young adults who are dedicated to mentor them. Let the little children come to Jesus and experience His love through us. We are looking for passionate and experienced young individuals for such exciting vision and mission.
Job Summary:
As a Christian leader who has a passion to build up the next generation, you will be directed under PGC pastors and children/youth committee to learn and become mature through leading and outreaching to children and youth in summer months.
You will invest in youth and children's lives through the ministry of PGC, aiming to create a memorable and lasting impact to youth and children, where they feel the love and support from a vibrant community, and are encouraged to do the same as how you and your team model such passion and great character.
The purpose of this position is to equip and train an individual in the areas of leadership, planning, public speaking, youth engagement & outreach, and inter-personal skills.
From mid-May to mid-June, you will be under direct mentorship of Pastor Connie Liu for your own spiritual growth as well the skills mentioned above. She will teach you to create and assist in various pastoral ministries where you will have lots of vibrant leadership roles to reach out to the younger youths.
You will be assisting in the planning and leading of children's and youth outreach and weekly program. You will be trained to lead pastoral duties including caring, visitation, praying, planning with volunteer leaders, delegating and empowering younger leaders, public speaking to a wide variety of audience groups, planning for a quality camp and organizing volunteer teams.
From mid June to August, you will be focusing on directing and managing a 3 weeks' summer camp by supervising the Youth Development Coordinator's team. You will supervise them to plan and deliver a dynamic, fun-filled, leadership building camp experience for the campers.
The final week of August continues the routine of mid-May to mid-June with the addition of evaluating the whole summer experience to staff, debrief of the entire summer, as well as providing follow-up plan and guidelines for the following school year.
Team leadership in Camp weeks
You will lead the entire Youth Development Coordinators' team to mentoring and shaping younger Camp Counsellors and Counsellors-in-Training (CIT), as well as Station Leaders and Leaders in Training (LIT) in a team setting through children's summer camp.
Your job will be busy and requires high commitment but it will be very rewarding. The ideal candidate will be an excellent leader, a multi-tasker in planning, organization, administration, people development and communication.
This candidate must have vibrant spiritual life and proven ministry experience or reference shown in leading children and youth summer camp previously, shows genuine passion with proven ministry experience, both in children's ministry, and/or leading young people between ages of 13-18 so that they can enhance their spiritual development in Christ.
Location: All Saint Catholic Elementary School in Markham Unionville
Pay or honorarium:
Under Federal government CSJ criteria, the successful applicant will be paid in a range from $16.55 per hour up to $22 per hour (subject to experience and seniority) for 35 to 40 hours per week for 13 weeks (according to the CSJ application approval). This pay is only made possible by Canada Summer Job (CSJ) funding approval under federal government.
