LASER (LIDAR) Speed Enforcement Operator’s Course
The LASER Speed Enforcement Operator’s Course (commonly referred to as LIDAR) is a one-day training program that combines classroom instruction with hands-on outdoor practical exercises.
This course is provided at no cost to attending officers and is presented by Laser Technology Inc. (LTI).
Course Focus
Instruction is based on Laser Technology Inc. (LTI) 20-20 products, including:
- UltraLyte
- TruSpeed®
- TruSpeed® S
- TruSpeed® SXb
The course is conducted in accordance with New Jersey case law governing laser speed enforcement. Each student will receive a course workbook as part of the training.
Optional Equipment-Specific Training
Additional, optional instruction is available for agencies operating the following LTI devices:
- TruCam
- TruVision
- UltraLyte with Distance Between Cars (DBC)
Certification Requirements
Upon course completion, operators must complete 80 hours of unsupervised operation with their assigned lidar device.
After the required documentation is submitted and reviewed, an Operator’s Certificate will be issued.
Prerequisites
Students must be current or former RADAR operators to attend the Basic Lidar Operator’s Course.
Officers who do not meet this prerequisite will be required to remain for additional instruction.
Equipment & Logistics
Each student must bring their assigned LASER/LIDAR device to the class for use during practical exercises.
No lunch break is scheduled for this one-day course.
Use one registration form per officer.
Please bring your lidar unit with you to the class.
