The David T. Kearns Center for Leadership & Diversity in Arts, Sciences, & Engineering is pleased to announce the continuation of its summer awards program to support and encourage undergraduates affiliated with the center in their desire to expand their academic endeavors. Award recipients can use funds in several ways including but not limited to taking additional courses, pursuing study abroad opportunities, or working toward an internship. Each award specifies specific funding opportunities and eligibility (see below). To be considered for an award, the applicant must be an active scholar in the Kearns Center. An active scholar in the Kearns Center is a student who frequently meets with their Academic Coach (in the Kearns Center), maintains a connection with Kearns Center staff, and is involved/engaged in programmatic efforts put on by the Kearns Center.
The Alan and Mark Frohman Fund
Up to $5,000 (1-2 awards will be granted)
Purpose: to provide support for undergraduate students in good standing in the Kearns Center to participate in enrichment programs, such as summer courses, expenses for education abroad, internships, research opportunities, or other education or research activities that will improve retention/graduation rates.
Disclaimer: First preference will be given to students majoring in or minoring in any STEM fields.
Eligibility:
-Have a GPA of 2.75 or higher.
-Applicant must be a full-time matriculated student in good conduct standing.
-Preference is given to first-generation college students.
The Mark and Jill Goldstein Fund
Up to $5,000 (1 award will be granted)
Purpose: Funding will be used to support students taking a course to stay on track toward graduation.
Disclaimer: Preference will be given to rising seniors or seniors.
Eligibility:
-Applicant must be a full-time matriculated student in good conduct standing.
-Must be a rising senior or a senior needing support to take a course to graduate.
-Preference given to first-generation college students.
The Tracy D. Sharpley-Whiting and Dr. Gilman W. Whiting Fund
Up to $1,000 (1 award will be granted)
Purpose: to provide support to students who are served by the David T. Kearns Center for Leadership and Diversity in Arts, Sciences, and Engineering. Funding will be used to support summer experiential learning activities.
Disclaimer: preference is given to underrepresented students pursuing social science/humanities degrees.
Eligibility:
-Have a GPA of 2.75 or higher.
-Applicant must be a full-time matriculated student in good conduct standing.
-Preference is given to underrepresented students pursuing degrees in social science/humanities.
Jason Toates Fund for Diversity & Leadership
Up to $2,000 (1-2 awards will be granted)
Purpose: Funding will support travel for experiential learning, with a priority on international travel.
Disclaimer: preference is given to international traveling.
Eligibility:
-Have a GPA of 2.75 or higher.
-Applicant must be a full-time matriculated student in good conduct standing.
