Discrimination, Harassment and Bullying Policy
Under the Ontario Human Rights Code, every person has a right to equal treatment in the provision of all events hosted by the Chesley Saddle Club.
Chesley Saddle Club will not tolerate, ignore, or condone discrimination, harassment and bullying and is committed to promoting respectful conduct, tolerance and inclusion. All members of Chesley Saddle Club are responsible for respecting the dignity and rights of others.
Discrimination is any practice or behaviour, whether intentional or not, which has a negative impact on an individual or group protected in the Ontario Human Rights Code.
All complaints shall be treated confidentially and there shall be no reprisal.
Any allegation will be addressed by at least TWO members of the executive in the situation of discrimination, harassment and/or bullying.
Definitions:
Allegation: an allegation is an unproven assertion or statement based on a person’s perspective that the policy has been violated.
Complaint: a complaint is a written or verbal report by a complainant alleging that they have experienced or witnessed harassment and/or bullying based on one or more grounds identified. Incident: An incident is an event or occurrence in which discriminatory, harassing and/or bullying behaviour is exhibited at a Chesley Saddle Club event. An incident includes situations where an individual knows or ought to have reasonably known that the behaviour is contrary to this policy.
Process of Reporting Discrimination, Harassment & Bullying
1) Report the situation to a member of the Executive of the CSC
2) Executive (at least TWO members) will address accused individual for resolution 3) Individuals who have declined participating in resolution and/or the individual engaged in discrimination, harassment and/or bullying behaviour on more than one occasion will be asked to leave the current CSC event
CSC Executive will schedule a meeting following the event to discuss approach to the reported discrimination, harassment and/or bullying, and the individuals’ future
attendance of CSC events
Roles & Responsibilities
All members of the Chesley Saddle Club are responsible for:
● Knowing this policy and reporting process,
● Not engaging in discrimination, harassment or bullying behaviour,
● Cooperating in good faith in dispute resolution processes including investigations and ● Abiding by confidentiality expectations
Starting January 2025, upon registration, members of the Chesley Saddle Club will review and sign in agreement to this written policy.
Review of CSC members will be required annually.
