Self Tape Information
For the role of SEREBRYAKOV please look at Act 2, pages 29 - 33 - link to pages.
Alexander Vladimirovich Serebryakov is an elderly and retired professor. He is the father of Sonya and the former husband of Vanya's deceased sister. Serebryakov arrives at the rural estate run by Vanya and his daughter Sonya, accompanied by his young and beautiful second wife, Yelena. Serebryakov's visit disrupts the quiet life of the estate and becomes a catalyst for the tensions and conflicts among the characters. Throughout the play, Serebryakov is portrayed as a self-absorbed and demanding figure, often oblivious to the emotional struggles of those around him. His presence serves as a commentary on the disillusionment and dissatisfaction experienced by the other characters in the face of unfulfilled dreams and unmet expectations.
For the role of TELEGIN please look at Act 4, pages 89 - 92 link to pages.
Ivan Petrovich Telegin is a local landowner and a neighbor to the protagonists, Vanya and Sonya. He is a minor character in the play, but his presence adds depth to the depiction of rural life and the challenges faced by the estate's inhabitants.
Telegin is characterized by his resigned and melancholic demeanor. He serves as a musician on the estate, playing the guitar, but his financial situation is far from prosperous. Telegin is a symbol of the struggles faced by the rural gentry and the difficult economic circumstances that impact their lives. Despite his hardships, Telegin often finds solace in music and his interactions with the other characters, contributing to the overall atmosphere of Chekhov's exploration of the complexities of human relationships and the rural setting.
