Please read the following paragraph and answer the questions below:
On our planet lives multiple organisms all around us. Organisms are animals, plants, or single- celled life forms that inhabit the earth. Basically, anything that has life is an organism.
Scientists have studied these organisms and have learned many things about them. In healthcare we are most often concerned with single-celled organisms such as bacteria, fungi and protozoa. These organisms are known for invading the human body and causing infections that can make us sick.
Viruses can also cause illness to the human body however they are not considered single-celled organisms. Scientists have found that viruses are not considered living cells and therefore are not considered an organism at all. It is not until they attach to a living organism, that they can then invade that organism and cause harm or infection just as single-celled organisms do. Nevertheless, viruses still pose a threat to the human body and can cause infection just like bacteria, protozoa and fungi.
The first line of protection against viruses, protozoa, bacteria and fungi is hand washing. Our hands come in contact with many surfaces throughout the day. These surfaces can expose us to these infection causing elements. It is important that we wash our hands frequently to prevent infections.
