The Connecticut Guitar Festival is pleased to announce the 1st Connecticut Guitar Festival Competition for Classical Guitar. Our inaugural competition is dedicated to Maestro Leo Brouwer on his 85th birthday. In addition to the prizes in each division, a special award will be given for the best performance of one of his works.

Registration and the preliminary round closes at 11:59PM EST on February 15th, 2024. Finalists will be announced on February 17th, 2024. The final round, for selected finalists only, will be held in person on March 2, 2024 at the Suzuki Music School of Westport. Announcement of the winners for all rounds will be made at the evening concert at MoCA on March 2, 2024.
- Registration Refunds will not be given after applying.
- CGF reserves the right to cancel the competition at any time and refund all application fees.
- CGF reserves the right to cap registrants and close registration, or to begin a waiting list should we reach a level that poses undue logistical challenges for our judges.

The contest is open to all, and there is no minimum age for entry. If you are under the age of 18, your parent or legal guardian must submit your entry. Please confirm you are over 18yrs old or the Parent/Legal Guardian of the entrant*

Judging

Judges will evaluate each competitor and will vote, without consultation with other judges, for their choice of the 4 competitors from the Preliminary Round who they wish to advance to the Final Round. All votes will be tallied and the 4 competitors with the highest votes shall advance to the Final Round. Should a tie result, judges will discuss via online conferencing, and re-vote on the tied competitors. In the Final Round, judges will vote for each place, beginning with First then moving on to Second, Third, and Forth. No ties will be allowed in the final results. In the case of a tie during deliberation, judges will discuss and re-vote on the tied competitors via online conferencing to determine who will advance to the higher place. All decisions by the judges are final. Judges’ Feedback sheets may be distributed at the competitor’s inquiry to the email address used for registration within a few weeks of the conclusion of the competition. There will be no ranking or point system used for these sheets. CGF reserves the right to cap registrants and close registration, or to begin a waiting list should we reach a level that poses undue logistical challenges for our judges.
