2024 AAEA Fall Open Juried Exhibition

Our goal is to assemble the finest display of equine artwork.  The focus in the jurying process will be to select paintings, drawings and sculptures of the highest quality, with emphasis on diversity in style and subject matter.

General Information

• Entries must be received through submission of this form, or by mail, by midnight, Sunday, July 14, 2024.
• Artwork of original concept and design only.  Submission must be originally conceived from the artist's own reference and have been self-painted.  No direct copies of stock images, historic photos, or any reference you do not hold the copyright to are allowed.  No workshop pieces.  No AI art or art generated from AI generated photography.
• 2D Entries must have been painted in the last 3 years and not have been accepted into any previous AAEA Exhibit. 
• Sculptures must have been created in the last 5 years and not accepted into any previous AAEA Exhibit.  Sculptures not to exceed 60 lbs. and must fit on a pedestal.
• Two dimensional size:  No larger than 60" (5 feet) on the longest side.
• Painting(s) must be framed and wired for hanging.  No sawtooth hangers.
• Gallery wrap is acceptable, providing the painting extends and covers all four sides of the gallery wrap.
• Maximum entries:  three (3).
• The artist retains the copyright to his/her image(s).  However, accepted images to become part of the AAEA archives, displayed on our website and may be used for future AAEA event promotions.
• All work must be for sale.  40% commission on paintings or 25% commission on sculpture.
• Participating artists must be 18 years of age or older and currently living in North America.
• Artists are responsible for insuring their work to and from the exhibit.
• Notification will be emailed on or about September 6, 2024.

Read this entire prospectus carefully. Any piece that does not meet all entry criteria will be automatically rejected, and the entry fee will not be refunded. This includes any artwork that is a duplicated entry from past AAEA exhibits, or shipping box containing loose foam peanuts or shredded paper.

Entry Information

Eligibility:  This competition is open to all artists 18 years of age or older residing in North America.

Online Submission:  Deadline:  Midnight July 14, 2024.  Electronic applications will be accepted via this form.  Images should be sized at 72 dpi and 4000 pixels at the largest dimension. 

Fees:  The Member's electronic jurying fee is $35.00 (USD) for up to two pieces, $45.00 (USD) for three pieces.   Non-members $40 (USD) for up to two pieces, $50.00 for three pieces.  Payments made through either PayPal or Square via this form.  Or send a check along with an entry blank to AAEA, PO Box 12303, Lexington, KY 40582.  Jurying fees and completed application for online submissions must be received by midnight July 14, 2024.

Sales Commission:  All work must be for sale.  Sales commission of 40% on 2-dimensional work; 25% on 3-dimensional work will be taken on all sales.  Pre-sales of accepted artwork is not permitted unless OK'd by the AAEA and commission will be taken.  Paintings must be priced in accordance to the artist's current price structure.

Delivery and Return of Accepted Work:  

Out of Town Artists:  Ship to Aiken Center for the Arts, 122 Laurens St. SW, Aiken, SC 29801, to arrive between October 14-18, 2024.  No wooden crates.

Local Artists:  Deliver uncrated paintings to Aiken Center for the Arts, 122 Laurens St SW, Aiken SC 29801 between October 14-18, 2024 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.  Hand delivered work must be picked up between December 2-6, 2024, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Canadian Customs Form:  A completed customs form must be included for the return of artwork shipped from Canada.  The AAEA cannot be responsible for artwork not returned due to incorrect or incomplete paperwork.

Return Labels:  Shipped artwork must include a $25 check* payable to the Aiken Center for the Arts to cover the expense of unboxing, storing of boxes, re-boxing and contacting your shipping carrier.  In a separate envelope include the appropriate return shipping label with your personal Fed Ex or UPS Account Information.  If your return label does not have a tracking number it is not a complete shipping label.  Empty StrongBoxes will be returned to the artists, at the artist's expense, at the conclusion of the show if their work sells.  No wooden crates.

Notification:  Notifications will be emailed on or about September 6, 2024.
