About Wenke Greenhouse

Wenke Greenhouses is an independent, family-owned garden center located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. We have been growing flowers for Greater Kalamazoo gardeners for more than 60 years. Our retail store is located on the corner of Sprinkle & Market. We have four wholesale growing facilities; three locations are right here in Kalamazoo and the fourth is in Douglas, GA. Our focus is annuals, vegetables, herbs, perennials, and houseplants.

Our team members strive to make our garden center the benchmark of customer satisfaction. Whether the customer is an avid gardener or a first-time trowel holder, our team members make them feel special by providing an inviting and knowledgeable place for their shopping experience. Our team members must have a positive attitude, enjoy helping customers and be willing to do physical work – must not be afraid to get hot, cold, tired, and dirty. Most importantly, we are looking for quality, dependable employees. Plant knowledge is welcomed and appreciated but not required for all jobs. All the jobs require a lot of walking, bending, lifting, and twisting. Temperatures can fluctuate from very warm to very cold.

Most positions are seasonal although we will often keep a few associates into the summer and fall. Interviews begin mid-March. Jobs generally begin in April and go through mid to late June. Some people work 40 hours a week while others work a minimum of 15 hours a week. The minimum hiring age is 16 years old. Everyone is required to work either Saturday or Sunday and many people work both days. We would prefer a more flexible schedule but are willing to work around certain schedules. Store hours are typically Mon – Sat 9am -7pm and Sundays 11-6 with shorter hours at the very beginning of the season. Work hours may begin before or end after these hours depending on the work that needs to be done. Shifts can vary from 4 hours to 8+ hours dependent on our mutual needs. Mother’s Day weekend and Memorial Day weekend are mandatory for all retail employees. The retail store will open for the season April 1, 2025. Seasonal employment starting wage is $14/hr. with seasonal bonus opportunity available.
