  • APPLICATION FOR READMISSION 2025 (EMS)

  • Readmission is governed by the University’s Admission Policy (Part One – section 8 and Part Two – section 7), the University General Rules A.3.2.3 and the respective programme rules as stipulated in the various faculty calendars.

    Applicable General Rules

    A.3.2.3 Renewal of Registration

    Unless the Faculty Board decides otherwise

    (a) A student not in his/her final year of study will not be allowed to renew his/her registration as a candidate for a degree, diploma or certificate in a particular faculty, if, in terms of the rules of such faculty, he/she has failed in two attempts to gain sufficient credits for promotion to the next level of study.

    (b) A student in his/her final year of study (or any other student to whom the provisions of (a) above are not applicable) will not be allowed to renew his/her registration for a degree, diploma or certificate in a particular faculty, if, in terms of the rules of such faculty, he/she has failed in three attempts to complete all the requirements for the particular degree, diploma or certificate.

    (c) The provisions of A.3.2.3 (a) and (b) above are not applicable to students registered for degrees, diplomas or certificates, which have faculty rules providing for alternative conditions of renewal of registration.

    (d) A student who is not permitted to renew his/her registration for a particular degree, diploma or certificate (in terms of the provisions of A.3.2.3 (a), (b) or (c) above) may be permitted to register for a degree, diploma or certificate in another faculty at the discretion of the Faculty Board concerned, provided that such student shall submit a written application for such registration to the Dean of the Faculty at a date specified in the General Calendar Part 1

    (e) Should a student who has been permitted to register for a degree, diploma or certificate in terms of the provisions of A.3.2.3 (d) above, fail, at the end of that year, to gain promotion to the next year of study, such student will, save with the permission of the Faculty Board, not be allowed to renew his/her registration as a candidate for such degree, diploma or certificate.

    (f) A student who has been refused permission to renew his/her registration for a degree, diploma or certificate in terms of the provisions of A.3.2.3 (a) or (b) or (e) above or in terms of those rules referred to in A.3.2.3 (c) above, may apply to the Faculty Board for permission to re-register, provided that such application must be in writing to the Faculty Board not later than the closing date as published in the University Calendar.

      1. Attach a letter of motivation
      2. Attach supporting documentation (e.g. Medical certificate, Affidavit, 3rd Party Letter etc.)
      3. A copy of the last/latest results
      4. APPLICATION WITH NO SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED
      5. You should have met previous year’s readmission conditions (if applicable)
      6. Closing date for applications:
        Friday, 10 January 2025 - Academically Excluded Students 2024 (code 05 - Further Admission Refused)

    • Readmission Guidelines

      1. Please rest assured that the EMS Student Affairs Committee will maintain the strictest confidentiality regarding your application.
      2. Focus on explaining any challenging situations that were beyond your control and caused you to underachieve if they apply to you.
      3. The type of reasons you may refer to below that contributed to your underachievement includes:
        • Academic Reasons
        • Health or Psychological Reasons
        • Social or Welfare Challenges
        • Financial Reasons
        • Other Personal Reasons
      4. Be sure to express your reasons clearly.
      5. It's important to connect the circumstances you're describing with the supporting documents you'll be providing. This will help us understand your situation better.
      6. In the appropriate sections of the letter, clearly state which supporting documents you are including with your letter.
      7. Don't forget to submit and attach the necessary supporting documents to prove each exceptional circumstance you mention in your motivation. It's crucial to include these supporting documents because, without them, we won't be able to consider your motivation, and your application will be seen as incomplete. This is your one chance to apply for readmission, and you won’t be able to submit additional documents later.
      8. To make things easier, number your supporting documents from Annexure A to however many you have, in the order that matches the categories you mentioned in your application.
      9. On each page of your supporting documents, write your initials, surname, student number, and the programme you are applying for readmission to.
      10. Finally, ensure that your fully completed readmission application, along with all the supporting documents, reaches the university before or on the closing date.
      11. By following these guidelines, you will increase your chances of a successful readmission application.
