  • Students participating in the Combined Degree Program must complete this form before registration for their final Fall semester.

  • The Combined Bachelor's and Master's Degree Course Approval Form is required for combined degree students. 

    This process ensures the graduate courses you plan to take are appropriate for your graduate degree and count properly towards your undergraduate degree either as satisfying a specific requirement or counting as elective credit towards the 120 credits you need to graduate from your undergraduate program.

    Guidelines: 

    • Before submitting this form you must consult the Combined Degree Course Sharing website to find the suggested graduate courses you should take and their possible application to your undergraduate degree requirements: (https://elliott.gwu.edu/program-equivalents-combined-bachelorsmasters)
    • Take note that courses cannot be double-counted between two requirements within your Elliott School undergraduate major requirements.
    • If you would like a graduate level course to fulfill an undergraduate requirement other than one already listed on the Combined Degree Course Sharing website, you should submit a Course Substitution Request form BEFORE you submit the Combined Degree Course Approval Form.
    • The Graduate courses you choose to take do not HAVE to fulfill an undergraduate major requirement. The course can count toward an elective for your undergraduate degree and count towards the 120 credits you need to graduate.  

     Instructions:

    • Under “Admitted Masters Degree Program” please select the Graduate degree program you were admitted to.
    • Under “Course 1” please select one of the graduate courses you plan on taking from the approved courses found at the link above. 
    • Under "Number of credits tab" choose the appropriate number of credits.
    • Under “Undergraduate Requirement” choose the appropriate undergraduate requirement that the course is going to fulfill. For approved courses, please consult the Course Sharing Guidelines linked above. 
    • Under "Graduate requirement" choose the appropriate requirement that the course will fulfill.
    • Repeat the above steps for courses 2, 3 and 4 (if the fourth course is needed/allowed).
    • If you are requesting to take a course that is not on the approved list for a Graduate elective course, please list it on the bottom of the page under the field that is designated for that purpose. The graduate department will review and decide if this course can count for an elective for this program.
    • Type your full name as it appears on your DegreeMap under the appropriate field. 
    • Click "submit" to submit the form.
    • If there are issues with the form, you will receive an email alerting you what the issues are, and you will be asked to submit a new form with suggested changes included.
    • If your planned courses change after you submit this form, please note you will have to submit a new form with the new courses to receive updated approval.
