Instrumental and Voice lessons are available at St Margaret’s College. These lessons occur during school time and are taken by well-qualified and experienced tutors who visit the College each week.
- This form must be COMPLETED IN FULL and submitted as soon as possible, with a cut off date of Friday 9th Feburary
- A new form is required every year

The lessons are private, but the Head of Faculty, Amanda Woods, (email: amanda.woods@stmargarets.school.nz) monitors and guarantees standards. Any problems should first be directed to the Itinerant teacher. If further support is needed then contact Amanda directly.
The minimum age requirement to start each instrument varies depending on the instrument. Please discuss this with one of the music staff.

Instrument Hire
A limited number of instruments are available for hire from the College, at a cost of $50.00 per term. These include violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone and guitar.
Please note that in the case of stringed instruments, a young player will start on a smaller sized instrument.
Students are normally able to hire instruments for a period of up to two years, after which they will be expected to purchase their own.
Instruments may also be hired from the Christchurch Music Centre, Sedley Wells, or KBB Music. Music staff have details of this.
It is expected that students who have piano and drum tuition will have regular access to a piano or drum kit on which to practice, but arrangements can be made where possible, to use school instruments to practice on after school hours, lessons are usually 30 minutes per week.

Instruments and Voice
Accounts will be sent out by individual teachers and are payable directly to them.
Additional costs will occur for the purchase of music and exam fees.
Should a student wish to discontinue lessons during the year, Ms Woods and the Instrumental teacher MUST BE GIVEN ONE TERM’S NOTICE IN WRITING.
A full term’s fees will be charged in lieu of notice.
Timetable
Students in Year 11-13 will have priority over lesson times and may have a set time each week during a study period. Students in Year 1-6 may also have a set lesson time. Lunchtime lessons are not guaranteed. Where possible, all other lessons will be timetabled on the same day but at a different time each week, so that students avoid missing the same period every time. It is the responsibility of the student to catch up on school work missed.
Lessons are in addition to the school curriculum, not instead of it.
School activities that disrupt the normal timetable will be taken into account when lesson timetables are arranged.
Absence
If a student is unable to attend a lesson for any reason, the student’s instrumental / voice teacher must be notified before 8.00am on the day of the lesson. Failure to advise of an absence in this way, forgetting to attend lessons, or forgetting music or instrument, will result in the usual charge for the lesson. If the teacher is away, the lesson will be made up, or the fees adjusted.
