  • Membership in Salmagundi Club, established in 1871, opens the door to an exhilarating world of art: colorful gallery exhibitions; painting demonstrations by nationally recognized artists; classes in drawing and painting; and a host of social activities.

    The Salmagundi Club is a 501(c)(3) organization.

    Application fee is $200 and non-refundable.
    Application fee for Junior and Scholarship applicants is $35.

    • • For Artist Members, submit to 10 to 14 juried exhibitions annually and be eligible to win awards.

      • SCNY is a Member of the North American Museum Reciprocal Association offering discounts to venues all over North America.

    • Membership Tiers 
    • Resident Artist & Patron

      ($1,050 annually, $262.50 billed quarterly)
    • Resident members must reside within a 50-mile radius of New York City. Minimum House Charges are $100 every quarter.

    • Non-Resident Artist & Patron

      ($545.63 annually, $272.81 billed semi-annually)
    • Non-Resident members must reside outside a 50-mile radius from the Club. Non-Resident Members who wish to participate as officers or on committees can do so provided they:

      • reside within a 100-mile radius and
      • adhere to Resident Member Dues.

      There are no minimum house charges for this category.

    • Junior Artist & Patron

      ($305 annually, $76.25 billed quarterly)
    • Applies to those who are between the ages of 31 and 35, resident or non-resident artist or patron. Junior members will become a full Resident / Non-Resident member on their 35th birthday.

      Minimum House Charges are $15 every quarter for residents.

    • Scholarship Artists

      (No dues for 1st year, $75 per year afterwards until 31st birthday.)
    • Applies to Resident or Non-Resident Artist between the ages of 21 through 30. Scholarship members are required to submit to two exhibitions, annually.

    • Member Spouse

      ($275 annually, $68.75 billed quarterly)
    • A Member Spouse has all the social privileges of the Club, but may not exhibit artwork.

  • For Artist Applicants

  • As an artist applicant, either resident or non-resident, your application must be accompanied by 8 - 10 different examples of your work, preferably in the same genre. Digital images should be high resolution and at 300 DPI to judge work accurately.

    Naming convention for images: Last_First_Title_Medium_Size.jpg

    You must also provide a list of works in .doc format.

  • Three signatures required: a Proposer and two Sponsors.

    For applicants outside of the 50-mile radius, only a Proposer and one Sponsor is required. If you live too far to obtain signatures easily, please call 212-255-7740 for further assistance.

  • Please either upload a recommendation letter, or have your sponsors email us at clubsecretary@salmagundi.org using the email subject "Membership Recomendation." Recommendations may be brief, such as "I happily recommend John Smith for Membership in the Salmagundi Club."
