Our 1 day workshops are tailored for creatives aged 16 and over. Participants can expect to delve into various mediums, including photography, visual arts, creative writing & fashion. These hands-on sessions provide a platform for honing skills and exploring creative expression in an inclusive environment.
The workshops aim to foster creativity, skill development, and community engagement among participants. By offering diverse mediums and techniques, Level up brum seeks to empower individuals to express themselves artistically and expand their creative horizons. Whether participants are beginners or experienced, these workshops provide valuable opportunities for growth and artistic exploration.
Photography workshop
Level - beginner
12 - 4pm
Students will delve into the fundamentals of photography, engaging in interactive learning to master its intricacies. This workshop offers a hands-on experience, culminating in an opportunity towards the end of the session for students to apply their newfound knowledge by photographing professional models from TBFC, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the craft.
• Understanding composition & framing.
• Techniques for proper exposure and lighting (technical)
• Tips for capturing sharp and well-focused images
• Intro to different photography genres (portrait, fashion, product, documentary)
• Crafting compelling brand stories and narratives through images.
Live fashion illustration
Level - beginner - advanved
10am - 4pm
Students will be introduced to the foundational principles of illustration to establish a strong base. Following this instruction, students will have the unique opportunity to draw from a live, professionally dressed model, providing an immersive and enriching experience in the art of illustration.
• Understanding the use of fashion illustration
• Basic techniques such as sketching, blending, contouring & hatching
• Colour rendering different types of garments and textures by using markers
• Depicting prints and patterns on garments.
• Drawing drapes , ruffles , creases , darts
Contemporary art
Level - beginner
12-5pm
Through a combination of hands-on instruction, demonstrations, and guided practice, students will explore various techniques and methods to express themselves artistically. From mastering the fluidity of watercolors to experimenting with mixed media elements, this workshop offers a comprehensive journey through the diverse possibilities of contemporary art-making.
• Introduction to Watercolours
• Exploring basic techniques
• Creating gradients, textures, and effects with watercolors
• Introduction to Mixed Media
• Exploring various mixed media materials such as collage, ink, pastels, and acrylics
• Combining different mediums to create texture, contrast, and visual interest
• Pushing the boundaries of mixed media with experimental techniques
By the end of the workshop students will have experimented with a number of different mediums. They will leave with a complete canvas of artwork created by them using the techniques learnt.
The sustainability project - Pain in2 purpose
level - beginner - advanced
10am - 4pm
Pain into purpose is a one day transformative workshop designed for Individuals from underserved communities, facing economic challenges or overcoming past traumas.
This immersive experience will embark upon a journey of self-expression through creative writing,poems, sketches using personal narratives as inspiration for unique fabric prints.
This one day workshop culminates in students customising pre-loved clothing to incorporate some or all of their creative writing; turning stories into wearable art.
A day of empowerment, creativity, and sustainable fashion exploration!
• Unleashing self-expression through poetry and creative writing.
• Exploring fabric printing, hand embroidery, and fabric painting techniques.
• Garment customisation
By the end of the session, Students will be equipped in numerous avenues for self-expression and depart the workshop with their own bespoke creation.

Courses will be ran on the weekend in Aston Birmingham
Select Participants will be selected to showcase their work in the level up brum gallerlly which will be launching for 1 day at the end of the workshops
