Ray Grande Scholarship Position Description
Position Purpose: The Ray Grande Scholarship was established in 2010 as an opportunity for students in the Town of Littleton to gain experience in a public library setting while earning money towards college. Ray Grande was the consummate volunteer, well-known and respected throughout the community. In honor of Ray's commitment to the Library and his community-first attitude, the Trustees of the Reuben Hoar Library are proud to offer this annual scholarship to high school individuals with anticipated graduation dates of 2024 or 2025 and who are residents of Littleton.
Supervision Received: Work is performed under direct supervision of either Head of Circulation, Children’s Librarian, or Young Adult Librarian; all questionable cases are referred to the Library Director or Assistant Director.
Supervision Given: This position does not supervise other library employees or volunteers.
Position Expectations: Work is performed under typical library conditions. Library operating hours may require evening and weekend work. Familiarity with computers and related software. May require some contact and communications with library patrons.
Examples of Possible Duties:
Shelving and Organizing:
- Shelve books and other library materials.
- Organize shelves and help maintain a neat and orderly library environment.
- Assist with weeding to remove outdated or damaged items.
- May involve lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (30 – 50 pounds)
- May need to lift and shelve books in high and low places.
Program and Event Support:
- Assist in planning and implementation of library programs and events.
- Create and run programs or activities under staff supervision.
- Assist in the preparation of craft kits for library programs.
Book Recommendations and Reviews:
- Select and write reviews for selected books.
- Create book recommendation lists for library patrons.
Social Media Assistance:
Support social media marketing and advertising efforts under the direction of library staff.
Book Preparation and Processing:
- Assist with book preparation and processing for circulation.
- Assist with basic library material cataloging.
Schedule: Flexible, during normal library operating hours.
