The Community Service Program allows community members to complete court-ordered volunteer hours while making a difference for wildlife. Tasks may include cleaning, maintenance, administrative work, and others.
Please note: The Community Service Program is completely seperate from all other volunteer teams and programs. Court-ordered volunteers are not permitted to interact with patients.
We do not accept volunteers with animal-related or violent crimes.
Expectations:
- Court ordered volunteers (COVs) are required to bring their ID and hours sheet to each shift. Copies of these documents will be made and retained for our records.
- COVs will be expected to follow all instruction and guidlines provided by staff and other personnel.
- COVs are not permitted to interact with wildlife patients. This includes, but is not limited to, handling or attempting to touch, feeding, speaking to, or opening enclosures without explicit instruction.
- COVs are expected to limit talking and noise in patient care rooms and avoid wearing strong fragrances to help limit stress of wildlife patients.
- The Community Service Program operates independently from our Animal Care, Education, and Transport Teams. Hours worked with our other three volunteer teams cannot be counted toward court-ordered community service requirements, and vice versa.
- Staff reserves the right to discontinue volunteer service at any time and for any reason, in alignment with our organizational policies and values.
Attendance:
- All shifts must be scheduled in advance with a staff member and are limited to 4 hours in length. Unscheduled shifts cannot be accomodated.
- Failure to show up for a scheduled shift without prior communication with staff (a no-call-no-show), except in the case of an emergency, will result in the termination of the volunteer’s service.
- Providing less than 24 hours' notice for an absence on two occasions will result in termination of the volunteer's service.
