3. No representations. The ADOPTEE is making no representations or warranties about the condition, personality, or temperament of the pet. This pet is being sold for domestic purposes only. ADOPTER understands that this pet was previously unwanted or lost and may have been rescued from a dangerous, unhealthy and/or cruel situation. It is possible that this may have long-lasting effects on the pet and may make the pet unpredictable under certain conditions.
4. Care of the pet. ADOPTER warrants that the pet will be kept in appropriate conditions for its health and welfare and shall not be neglected in any manner. ADOPTER will walk the pet on a leash, or place the pet in a protected run or other enclosed outdoor area, and never allow the pet to roam free unsupervised. ADOPTER will treat the animal as a household pet, companion and family member, and not leave the pet chained, cooped and/or otherwise confined for extended periods of time. ADOPTER agrees that he/she is not acting as an agent in the purchase of this pet and at no time shall the pet described herein be sold to a pet shop without ADOPTEE cconsent. ADOPTER agrees never to use the pet for fighting or any other “sport” in which one animal is pitted against another, and never to beat or taunt the pet in order to promote aggressive characteristics.
5. Veterinary care. ADOPTER agrees to have the pet examined by a licensed veterinarian within 7days of adoption and not less than a year thereafter. In case of illness or injury, ADOPTER agrees to seek prompt veterinary care. ADOPTER consents to the ADOPTEE inquiring with ADOPTER’S veterinarian about the pet after the adoption, and to looking over ADOPTER’S property where pet is regularly housed at a mutually convenient time. The adopter will provide all required and/or needed veterinary care as recommended by the attending veterinarian, including but not limited to: rabies shots, booster shots, fecal checks for internal parasites (worms), consistent heartworm preventative and prompt treatment by a licensed veterinarian for any illness or injury. If the dog/cat is not yet neutered/spayed at the time of adoption, the adopter agrees to have such completed no later than 45 after the date of adoption, or as otherwise noted in the Spay/Neuter Addendum. The adopter will ensure that a heartworm preventative is given year-round and that a heartworm antigen test is performed six months after the Date of Adoption and every 12 months thereafter; only with documentation of this history may the adopter be eligible for financial support from HH should the Dog require heartworm disease treatment with seven months of adoption. This means that the adopted canine should have their own HW prevention on file. We do not regonize shared preventions.
6. Transfer, Euthanasia. ADOPTER agrees not to abandon, give away, sell or dispose of the pet in any way, and the ADOPTEE shall be notified at any or such time as ADOPTER determines that he/she is no longer able or desires to keep and care for the pet so that the ADOPTEE can re-claim the pet and arrange for another adoption. ADOPTER agrees that he/she may never surrender the pet to an animal shelter, which engages in the practice of euthanizing surplus pets. ADOPTER agrees never to euthanize the pet except in the case of the pet’s terminal illness or injury, or old age accompanied by pain and suffering, and in that case, the euthanasia must be performed by a licensed veterinarian in a private clinic or hospital.
7. Lost pet. ADOPTER agrees to use his/her best efforts possible to find the pet if it becomes lost, by immediately (a) filing lost reports with the local police, animal control authorities, animal shelters, and local veterinarians, and (b) posting lost pet signs, and (c) contacting the ADOPTEE for additional service or assistance.
8. YOU MUST NOTIFY HH IF YOU MOVE OR CHANGE ADDRESS: I agree that if I move or change address that I will immediately contact HH and provide HH with the change of address information. This is required to ensure that all records and microchip information is properly updated.
9. IF YOU DON’T ABIDE BY THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT, HH HAS THE RIGHT TO RECLAIM THE PET: HH makes a lifetime commitment to any animal that is accepted into the sanctuary. On rare occasions, HH may have to
reclaim an adopted animal. Here is the procedure that will be followed:
(1) In the event that the Pet’s life is in immediate danger, HH may seek any means necessary to recover the Pet, with or without the Adopter’s notice or approval, and the Adopter must reimburse HH for any expenses in the safe recovery of the Pet.
(2) In the event that the Pet’s life is not in immediate danger, HH will send a reclamation notice to the Adopter. The Adopter must respond to the reclamation notice within 5 days of receipt. If the Adopter fails to return the Pet or fails to timely respond to the reclamation notice, HH may take appropriate legal action to retrieve the Pet, and the Adopter must reimburse HH for any expenses in the safe recovery of the Pet.
(3) The Adopter has 5 days following the reclamation of the Pet to discuss the matter with HH. Any decision as to whether the Pet will be returned back to the Adopter is in the sole discretion of HH.
