A group of Jewish herbalists and care workers are congregating and putting together a beautiful book about Jewish Herbalism to support people who are dying, their families, the full care network around end of life, death, and grief - such as Chevra Kadisha members, caregivers, and spiritual support workers- and those who are just curious to learn.
We are calling for submissions of personal stories, anecdotes and recipes for and about using and connecting with plants during this liminal and significant time period. No submission is insignificant or too short, and what might seem small may hold immense power. Although much of our Jewish ancestral wisdom and connection to plants may have been severed over generations, it still grows and lives inside us, through impulses, feelings, yearnings, childhood experiences, we dig our hands and our souls deeply into the earth, searching. The plants bring us together.
Please submit a drawing, story, ritual guide, recipe, poem, or a link to a recording or a video. We also can and would love to set up a call and meet with you one on one to listen deeply, co-create, and weave the stories together. If your submission is chosen we will send you a copy of the book once it has been printed. Thank you for sharing your stories, teachings, warmth, care, and brilliance with us.
Note: If you would like to submit in a language other than English (eg Yiddish, Ladino) please do, please share your story/recipe/teaching in the language that feels right. A translation of some kind eg pictures/some translation to English would likely be helpful for making it accessible across our diverse Jewish cultures.
