  • Relic Tour - Judge Application

    This is the application form for judge positions during all events for the Relic Tour 2024 in France.
  • Relic Tour is a multi-date serie of events around the game Magic The Gathering, based on the Relic Fest success.

    The event hosts one of Europe's largest independent tournament of the trading card game.

     

    The Relic Tour has 6 dates:

    • Bordeaux, February 16, 17 and 18 (max capacity: 100 players, Duel Commander main event)

     

    • Domagné (30mn from Rennes), February 24 and 25 (max capacity: 100 players, Multiplayer Commander)

     

    • Paris (Palaiseau), April 12, 13 and 14 (max capacity: 350 players, Main Event Duel Commander)

     

    • Ohlungen (30mn from Strasbourg) April 20 and 21 (max capacity: 350 players, Main Event format to be determined)

     

    • Eyguieres (between Aix and Avignon) on June 21, 22 and 23 (max capacity: 350 players, Main Event format to be determined)

     

    • The Relic Fest in Toulouse around the first weekend in November (application for the Relic Fest is not open yet)
  • This form offers four types of roles, Head Judge, Team Leader, Scorekeeper and Floor Judge.
    You can apply for each one independently.

    Each tournament does not require every judge position availaible in this form, as such, we recommed you to try to be flexible in your application. 

     

    At this moment, there is no level requirement, you can however mention whatever you have had as level/badge/other in your cover letter.

    If you feel to do so, include any one who could vouch directly for you, or any recommandation you may have.

  • HEAD JUDGE

    You will be in charge of several important tasks and objectives.

    The head judges will be responsible for scheduling, team building and the overall organization of the event.

  • Compensation: Voucher 300€ / day ; redeemable at the shop station during the event.

  • TEAM LEAD

    You will be in charge of several important tasks and objectives.

  • Compensation: Voucher 200€ / day ; redeemable at the shop station during the event.

  • SCOREKEEPER

    You need to be familiar with WLTR and EVENTLINK, and you know how to use Word and Excel.

    Most events will use WLTR & Eventlink.

  • Compensation: Voucher 200€ / day ; redeemable at the shop station during the event.

  • SK-Lead

     

    You are a judge with particularly advanced knowledge and understanding of the methods of pairing and processes of creating standings in a Swiss round tournament with single cut elimination phase.

     

    You are able to find a solution to a complex pairing or standing problem on the fly.

     

    You are inventive, orderly and methodical.

     

    Your task will be to guide and assist the Scorekeepers in their task, to keep track of byes, drops and penalties, to ensure consistency in the corrections made.

    You will need to replace the scorekeepers during their breaks, and you will be able to keep an overview of all the tournaments within your team.

     

    You are a calm and talented person, able to make things go smoothly when things are not going well.

     

    You will be faced with scorekeeping issues :

    • A round will fail to create pairings (WLTR);
    • A round is missing from a tournament due to a programming error (EVL);
    • The software server is saturated and 70% of the room wants to submit a score (MELEE);
    • The round has been randomly reset while the players are sitting and playing (SK);
    • Players with earned byes are paired in round 1 (SK);
    • Multiple players have reversed their results from the previous round and the new round has just started (Players);
    • Multiple players didn't played at the right table, played against different opponents, submitted different results and a new round has started (Players) ;
    • You no longer have any working software and a high stakes tournament has been started (Luck);
    • Etc.

     

    You will be given full access to scorekeeping accounts and software, using your own computer will be better for you.

     

    If we haven't worked together before, you may be asked to do a scorekeeping exercise prior to the selection.

    Only apply if you have a really good knowledge of tiebreakers, how to explain them and how to calculate them without software other than excel.

    Compensation: 300€ / day

     

    Hotel: Up to 3 nights in a shared room.


    Meals: Included during the whole event.

  • FLOOR JUDGE

    Compensation: Voucher 130€ / day ; redeemable at the shop station during the event.

  • Judge shifts usually last between 10 and 12 hours during the day. For example, your shifts may starts around 8am and end around 7-8pm.

    Please, explain in your cover letter your expectation in term of participation.

    Example : If you apply for Paris and for Ohlungen, but are available only some days during each of these weekend, say so above. Same thing regarding the different positions at different events.
