Youth Climate Corps BC is relaunching the Climate Friendly Homes Program to offer to residents of Vancouver's Mount Pleasant, Riley Park, and Kensington-Cedar Cottage neighbourhoods. This free program will provide residents with advice on how to reduce energy costs, make your home more comfortable and safe during extreme heat and cold, and make your home more climate friendly by reducing emissions and improving biodiversity in outdoor spaces through healthy landscapes.
Youth Climate Corps BC has been empowering young people in British Columbia with green jobs since 2020, initially in the Kootenays and expanding to Vancouver in the 2023-2024 season. The program hires local youth aged 17-30 to work on community-based climate action projects while providing workforce training and leadership development.
The Climate Friendly Homes program will involve two members of the Youth Climate Corps BC team visiting your home, and providing personalized advice for your home regarding ways to improve your climate resilience. The visit will be 45 minutes to an hour depending on the size of the home and outdoor space. Residents must be home during the visit. Our team can help provide information and resources on the incentives and grants available to residents, how to reduce the energy costs in your home, how to make your home more resilient to extreme heat, and how to build healthy landscapes throughout your space. All residents are welcome to register for this program, including renters and homeowners alike. Whether you live in an apartment, a detached house, or any type of housing in between, we encourage everyone to take part and sign up.
