Project Description: The J. Murrey Atkins Library was originally constructed in 1971 and is located at the heart of University of North Carolina Charlotte’s campus. At over 300,000 SF Atkins Library is the main library on campus. The second and final phase of this project includes approximately 11,500 sqft of interior renovations required for ADA and Fire/Smoke System upgrades. The existing elevator and portions of the shaft will be removed to expand the footprint and install larger elevators that meet current ADA codes. Additional renovations for ADA compliance and upgrades to the Fire/Smoke system will take place on floors 1 through 10. This phase also includes restroom renovations on floors 5 through 10.The anticipated schedule for construction of phase 1 is June 2024 to September 2025.
