    Grand River Health patients will receive their results through the patient portal.  All other results will be mailed. Please note: It is your responsibility to follow up with your primary care provider with your results.

                          Comprehensive Metabolic Blood Chemistry (CMP) / Lipid Panel

                          A1c

                          A blood screening that measures your average blood sugar control for the past 2 to 3 months. The results give you a good idea of whether or not you are at risk for diabetes. For people with diabetes it indicates how well your diabetes treatment plan is working.

                          Prostate Specific Antigen

                          MEN ONLY This screening is recommended for males 40 and older with a family history of prostate cancer, or all males ages 50 to 75. PSA is a blood screening that measures a protein that is only produced by the male prostate gland. Elevations of PSA may  occur in men with non-cancerous prostate diseases or prostate cancer. A normal PSA  level does not entirely exclude the possibility of prostate cancer. A digital rectal exam (DRE) is strongly encouraged in conjunction with a PSA screening.

                          A microalbumin urine test is used to detect early signs of kidney damage in people who are at risk of developing kidney disease.

                          Testosterone

                          Total testosterone level.  Levels are best represented when the screening is performed in the morning. Low testosterone levels in males can affect energy levels, mood and cognitive function, sexual desire, bone, and muscle mass, and fat distribution.  Low testosterone levels can be caused by many conditions. If out of range, seek further evaluation to screen for other underlying issues such as sleep apnea, depression, opiate, and other druguse, liver disease, diabetes, thyroid disorders, and others.
