• Personal Information

Please fill out this form to the best of your ability. We will use this information to assess your candidacy to the board. Answers will be shared with the Swords' Executive Team, the Governance Committee, and the Board President.
  • Swords and Community Connection

We want to know more about how you've interacted with the organization, the veteran community as a whole, and how you can be of service. If you are looking for more ways to be involved in addition to potential Board membership, please reach out to carrie.sullivan@stp-sf.org.
  • Board Commitments

The Board meets five times a year on Tuesday evenings, in April, June, August, October, and December, usually in San Francisco and occasionally in Oakland; holds an annual Board retreat, historically on a Saturday in February; and holds an annual Veterans Day Fundraiser in San Francisco in November.  We ask that you attend in person or by conference call, at least two-thirds of the board meetings each year and do not miss more than 2 consecutive meetings.
  • Interest, Skills, and Experience

These skills are commonly needed for the Board and we would like to know what you could bring. *For lived experience, we mean experiences that our clients would relate to (served in the military, experienced homelessness, etc.).
  • Optional Demographic Information

We will approach Board recruitment and retention in line with our DEI goals, including the goal that our staff and Board should be reflective of the clients we serve. To that end, we will aim to build a Board that reflects the following demographics: roughly 60% should identify as a veteran, 40% identify as having a disability, 30% identify as a woman, 40% identify as Black or African American, 18% identify as Latin/a/o/x, 5% identify as a person of color, 10% identify as LGBTQI+, and 10% have lived experience (formerly homeless). We also keep your skills in mind with who we currently have with the Board.
