  • PROSPECTUS

    "UPCYCLED" is a Juried art show to be held at Ardest Gallery in The Woodlands, Texas, just North of Houston between April 11th - May 4th, 2024. We are currently accepting all genres and styles that work within the noted show theme, and both 2D and 3D artworks. ALL works should incorporate recyled or upcycled materials in their composition.

    The Opening Reception will be held on Saturday, April 13th from 5-8 p.m. with a Juror presentation at 6:30 p.m.

    PANEL OF JURORS

    Julie Verville- Ardest Gallery Director & Curator

    Verville has curated dozens of art shows, drawing talent from across the state of Texas and national interest. Ardest Gallery currently represents 40+, emerging to mid-career level artists across all disciplines. Verville has served as a guest-juror for several local organizations, including The Woodlands Arts Council, as a panelist for C.I.S.D. and private schools, and is a board member of R.A.R.E. Art. She is also a member of the Visual Arts Alliance (VAA) and Women in the Visual and Literary Arts (WiVLA).

    Mitch Cohen- Artist, Arts Columnist, Founder of 1st Saturdays Art Market & The Market at Sawyer Yards

    Mitch Cohen is an unremitting behind the scenes art guy living in the Heights. A life long artist, in 2004 he founded First Saturday Arts Market, now Houston’s longest running monthly outdoor fine arts event. In 2016 Cohen created The Market at Sawyer Yards, an outdoor event that focuses on folk art, curated craft and specialty foods. Rarely saying no to a challenge, Cohen has been active in many neighborhood activities, from art walks, promotions and one of Houston’s most popular annual events, White Linen Night in the Heights (2006-2019). In 2013 Cohen started a weekly arts column called Art Valet in The Leader Newspaper, he interviews artists and writes about local art events. He was board member with the Art Colony Association, producer of Bayou City Art Festival from 2017 until 2023 and continues as a volunteer with the organization’s Middle School Art Competition. 

    Stacy Gresell- Encaustic & Mixed Media Artist; Communications Professor

    Stacy Gresell works full time as a professor at Lone Star College and as a mixed media artist with a studio in Winter Street. She began professional artwork in 2000 as a muralist and then 2009 learned silversmithing, enameling and lampworking and made jewelry until 2014 when she learned encaustic painting. In 2016 she began doing her own woodworking and making all of her own frames, often from upcycled and found objects. She is a true mixed media artist incorporating all of her media experience into her work. In. 2020 she really dedicated herself to being a green artist, ensuring that 75% of her materials come from recycled sources. She works and lives with her family in Cypress Texas.

    HOW TO ENTER

    Please read through all of the materials, including load-in and load-out dates to ensure that you can participate. Entries can only be submitted via JotForm.

    Please LABEL all submissions as "Work Title.Artist Name.Medium.Size.Price." Should your work(s) require additional details or notes, kindly note that in the "special requests" section offered in JotForm.

    ELIGIBLE MEDIA

    2D and 3D works are welcome. All works must have been completed between 2019-2024 and not previously exhibited at Ardest Gallery. Eligible media includes, but is not limited to, drawing, painting, photography, mixed media, oil, chalk, pastels, ink, ceramics, sculptures, metal work, wood work, and textiles. Max size for works is 48x60. ALL work must incorporate recycled or upcycled materials.

    NUMBER OF ENTRIES & APPLICATION FEE

    Each artist is limited to six (6) entries per submission. There is a $25 (USD) non-refundable/non-transferable fee for up to six (6) images. Payment must be submitted at the time of the application. The deadline to submit for this show is March 15, 2024 at 11:59 PM CST.

    ARTIST NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE

    Accepted artists will be notified no later than March 22nd, 2024 via the email provided in the submission application.

    LOAD-IN/LOAD-OUT DATES

    Load-in for will be offered both Saturday, April 6th, 10-2 p.m. and Monday, April 8th, 2024 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Ardest Gallery, located at 25200 Grogan's Park Drive, The Woodlands TX 77380. Pre-arranged shipments of artwork WITH return labels are also accepted. BUT, the works must arrive during the gallery's open hours.

    ALL accepted works delivered MUST  be ready-to-hang or display AND include a printed inventory sheet with title/size/medium and price alongside a thumbnail of the work(s).

    Load-out will be offered on Saturday,  May 4th from 1-3 p.m. and Monday, May 6th from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.

    GALLERY SALES

    Works will be exhibited and available for purchase by visitors to the gallery, and via an online gallery.  All sales throughout the show's duration will be managed by the gallery, with a 35% commission retained by the gallery. Commission statements will be provided via email to artists that sell work along with payment via their preference of Zelle, Venmo or check.

    AWARDS

    Awards will be provided for one Best in Show, 1st Place & 2nd Place. Honorable mentions will also be noted. 

    PUBLICITY

    The exhibition will be publicized locally via our social media platforms, digital media platforms and event listings, email newsletter and press releases submitted to local news outlets. Ardest Gallery reserves the right to use photographs and/or digital images for the purpose of publicity for the exhibit and/or the artist.
