24 Actions in 2024
1. Phase out and stop using fossil fuels. Fossil fuels use should peak by 2025 and quickly reduce to about half by 2030. Fossil fuels are oil, coal, and gas. I will sign the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty.
2. Our president should declare a climate emergency and rapidly scale up solar & wind energy, electric vehicles, and other measures.
3. Governments should stop giving subsidies--money-- to fossil fuel corporations and use that money for renewables.
4. I will move my money out of big banks that loan money to fossil fuel and agribusiness corporations. I will move my car and homeowners insurance out of companies that insure fossil fuels or deforestation. I will not invest in fossil fuels, deforestation, rainforest destruction, or factory farms.
5. I will ask organizations I am part of to move their investments or endowments out of fossil fuels and out of corporations involved in deforestation.
6. I support an international agreement to limit plastics, pesticides, and polyester because all of these are made from fossil fuels. Plastics and pesticides are especially unhealthy for the Earth.
7. I reject the false solutions of carbon offsets, carbon capture, hydrogen, mining, and LNG (Liquified Natural Gas, which is not clean). A law must be passed requiring that 60-80% of metals used in renewables, EVs, etc., must come from recycling--and NOT mining.
8. I support funding for cooperatives of small organic regenerative farms. End government subsidies for corporate agribusinesses, factory farms, and large plantations. These changes should be included in The Farm Bill.
9. Create laws to protect The Rights of Nature, which many countries already have.
10. Make ecocide a national and international crime. Make it law that CEOs can be personally sued for ecocide. Cutting down rainforests and old growth forests by corporations and agribusinesses should be a crime for example.
11. End SLAPP lawsuits that corporations or governments create against environmental advocates and others to deter civic action.
12. I will take time to read and learn what is meant by a "Just Transition" to address climate change so that no one is left behind. I support the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for All People. Factories have often been located in or near black and brown communities. We must prioritize the needs of underserved and black and brown communities in the U.S. and globally who have suffered the worse effects of fossil fuel pollution and climate change.
13. Fund education for women and girls. Fund women's small businesses around the world.
14. Pass The Forest Act which requires corporations to prove that goods they import do not come from new deforestation.
15. Create an International Treaty on Non-Proliferation of Military Weapons for Disarmament and Reduction of Military Spending to End Wars.
16. Create laws or Constitutional Amendments to limit campaign contributions by individuals and corporations, and end corporate lobbying. Pass the Anti-Corruption and Public Integrity Act. Pass the Judicial Ethics and Anti-Corruption Act.
17. Strengthen Voting Rights and Create automatic universal voting by mail for all people. Pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, and more.
18. Strengthen and restore local infrastructures for affordable housing, quality education, universal healthcare, electricity, clean affordable water, etc. I will also support and purchase from nonprofit industries, Fair Trade, organic food, regenerative farms, and Grade B corporations as much as possible.
19. We are in a wildlife and species extinction crisis. I support protecting 30% of all U.S. and global lands, waters, and oceans by 2030. I support protecting 80% of the Amazon Rainforest by 2025--and making deforestation of all rainforests and old growth forests anywhere in the world illegal nationally and internationally.
20. Protect Indigenous Peoples and their Rights to Land and Water--and more WORLDWIDE. Indigenous People protect 80% of the world's pristine lands, waters, and forests. They are being killed and imprisoned for their peaceful environmental actions. Their rights, lives, and humanity must be protected. I support an International Treaty to Protect and Restore the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
21. I support the creation of Nonprofit Banks to lend at low or zero interest rates and put their fractional reserve lending profits into a trust for local communities to use for the good of the community, including solar roofs, climate mitigation and disaster relief, purchase of EVs, etc.
22. Media, news, and social media outlets that have a pattern of sharing fake news that endangers public health, democracy, or other vital functions of a nation must have their license to operate revoked by the Federal Communications Committee or other government agency for endangering public health, obstructing democracy, or disrupting the vital functions of a nation. They must lose their social media accounts also.
23. Nonprofit organizations often have to sue government agencies to make them do their job enforcing environmental laws and consumer protection laws for example. I am in favor of nonprofits and pro bono lawyers creating a citizens' class action lawsuit that people and organizations can sign onto--to sue the federal government in my country to enact the national or federal laws listed in this Treaty. This should be created at no charge to people, but people might choose to donate to help cover costs.
24. I will make time to read and learn about each of the 10 Aspects of Climate Change on this site. Maybe I will read one section per week.
