Summer REC is for Redwood Christian AND local community students entering grades 1-8 (Fall 2024) unless otherwise noted. Students entering K will be considered on a case-by-case basis provided they have successfully completed a TK program. Students registered for the 9a-5p care program must bring their own am/pm snacks, lunch and a name-marked water bottle. Half day campers must bring their own name-marked water bottle and morning snacks.

Registration for each camp closes TWO weeks prior to its start date. Summer REC registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please note that some camps may have a maximum occupancy based on staff availability. RCS reserves the right to cancel any camp, with a full refund, due to unforeseen circumstances. We do not accept drop-in campers without prior registration.
Payment is due upon registration. Cancellation, by the camper, any time after registration and up until 2 weeks before the camp begins, will result in a $30 non-refundable fee. Cancellation within the 2 weeks before camp begins will result in only a 50% refund.
Due to the uncertainty of County health guidelines (that may change by the summer), any/all Summer REC programs may be cancelled. Therefore, if cancellation is made by RCS, a full refund will be given.
A separate REC registration form is required for EACH camper. However, a camper may sign up for as many camps as desired on one form.

Camp Descriptions:
At Eagles’ Sport camps, the fundamentals of the game will not only be taught but confidence and character will be instilled through every aspect of the game.
Our coaches are dedicated to the nurturing of each player's individual growth while emphasizing the importance of teamwork. Our goal is to cultivate self-confidence and foster breakthrough moments that propel our campers to new heights, both on and off the court/field/desk.

Week 1 (Tues-Fri) – May 28-31 – No Camps Scheduled
Weeks 2-10 - June 3-August 2 (M,T,TH,F) Eagles’ Weight Training Camp (at RCHS) 8-9:30a (Grades 9-12)

Description: Athletes will work with Coach Bibby on proper techniques of weight training. Coach Bibby will set athletes’ individual weight training goals, teach safe and proper technique to get them ready for their seasons. Personal water bottle is required.
Coach Bio: Coach Bibby is an experienced and current athletic trainer/coach at RCS. He has a background as an EMT and student in sports sciences (kinesiology). This coupled with a wide sports background makes him the ideal coach for this camp.
NOTE: This camp is open only to incoming Redwood Christian School 9th graders and current RCS JV/Varsity Athletes.
Week 2 - June 3-7 Eagles’ Art Camp (at RCE) 9a-12p (Grades 2-5)

Description: Students will engage in various art projects. At the conclusion of the week, students will bring home their art projects and any unused supplies. Please have your child bring an old t-shirt on the first day to serve as his/her class apron.
Coach Bio: Mrs. Becerra is the Redwood Christian MSHS Art teacher and has experience in art and creative crafts.
Week 2 - June 3-7 – Eagles' High School HOOPS Camp (at RCHS) 5-8p (Grades 9-12)
Description: Hour 1 places a special emphasis on dribbling, footwork, and driving to the basket with a strong finish. Participants will learn invaluable strategies for protecting the ball while on the move and keeping defenders off balance, making scoring opportunities easier to seize.
Hour 2 is all about perfecting shooting techniques and mastering footwork. Campers will also receive comprehensive instruction on ball handling and passing fundamentals. Engaging in friendly competition, they'll aim to tally 300- 500 shots daily, all while competing for prizes.
Hour 3 integrates all facets of the game, focusing on reading defenses and putting skills to the test in live game scenarios. Through our 3 on 3 and 5 on 5 tournaments, campers will showcase their newfound confidence and skills in a display of talent and teamwork.
Coach Bio: Coach Castaneda is the varsity coach of RCHS Boys Basketball team, and a proud alumni of Redwood Christian High School, basketball class of '96. With a wealth of experience in coaching and playing across various adult leagues in the Bay Area, including championship victories in San Francisco, Livermore, Dublin, San Ramon, and Pleasanton, Coach Castaneda has a passion for teaching the game to the next generation. He is committed to sharing his knowledge and expertise with all aspiring young athletes, making a lasting impact both on and off the court.

Description: Elementary campers will learn the basic principles of the game of soccer. They will utilize basic physical skills and participate in competitive drills organized within age/skill appropriate groups. Small group competitions and large group games will be included as part of the camp. Personal water bottle required.
Coach Bio: Coach Buenrostro is the current JV boys’ soccer coach at RCS. His vast experience will be used to help develop the campers’ soccer skills.

Description: Middle/High School campers will learn advanced principles of the game of soccer. They will utilize their physical skills and participate in competitive drills organized within age/skill appropriate groups. Description: Students will engage in this strategic game and compete against one another. No experience is required as this camp is for beginners. They will learn tactics and competitive perspectives. At the conclusion of the week, students will compete in a tournament to test their skills against one another. Camp includes a chess workbook and take-home chess set.
Coach Bio: Coach Chen is an experienced chess instructor who has taught chess to children of all ages. He has taught classes and camps with the Berkeley Chess School, Hayward Area Recreation Department (HARD), City of Dublin and various homeschool and church camps. In high school, he was a nationally ranked player for his age. He still plays online at chess.com where his blitz rating places him in the 99th percentile of over 6 million players. He earned his Masters Degree in Computer Science from MIT.

Weeks 3 & 4 – June 10-14, 17-21 Eagles’ LANDO Camp (at RCE) 9a-12p (Grades 1-4) Limit 20 Each

Description: LANDO’S Lego Engineering camp will teach students how to design, prototype, and test solutions to real world engineering problems. Each day will consist of one lego engineering challenge (e.g., durable domes that can support heavy weights dropped on top, catapults that can hurl a foam ball, trains that can transport cargo around a track) and a design activity that uses 3D pens or other materials to unlock our students’ creativity.
Coach Bio: All LANDO instructors have bachelor's degrees in science, education or a related field, as well as experience working with children. All of our teachers are first-aid and CPR certified, have updated background checks and TB tests, and go through an intensive onboarding process including lego engineering fundamentals and classroom management skills.
NOTE: Each LANDO Camp is identical. There are NOT two different camps.
Week 4 – June 17-21 Eagles’ Basketball Camp (at RCHS) 9a-12p (Grades 1-8)
Description: Campers will learn the basic principles of the game of basketball. They will utilize basic physical skills and participate in competitive drills organized within age/skill appropriate groups. Personal water bottle required.
Coach Bio: Coach Magee has coached at Redwood Christians Schools for nearly twenty years; coaching girls basketball at the grade school, middle school and high school level. He has also coached boys basketball, baseball, and soccer as well as girls softball. He played basketball in high school and at a small Christian college in Kansas. Coach Magee’s wife (retired) and daughter (current) have long teaching careers at RCS.
Week 5 - June 24-28 Eagles’ Digital Art Camp (at RCE) 9a-12p (Grades 2-5)

Description: Get excited for our summer REC digital art camp! We will be learning skills in storytelling, world building, claymation, and sound art to create individual short films with stop-motion. Ipads will be provided for students although they can bring their own tablet if desired. Tablet must be an apple ipad with app downloading capabilities for the stop-motion software we will use. Sign up if your child wants to learn about filmmaking and storytelling at our one-week digital art camp.
Coach Bio: Miss Moog is a teacher at Redwood Christian Schools with experience in art and creative crafts. She loves teaching art to elementary students and her favorite artistic hobby is sewing and knitting.
Week 5 - June 24-28 Eagles’ Flag Football Camp (at RCHS) 9a-12p (Grades 1-8)
Description: Campers will learn the basic principles of the game of flag football. They will utilize basic physical skills and participate in competitive drills organized within age/skill appropriate groups. Campers must wear athletic attire (t-shirt, shorts/sweats) and athletic shoes (cleats not required). Mouth guard is recommended. Personal water bottle required.
Coach Bio: Coach Boyd is a PE teacher at the RCE campus. He played football at Hayward High, Laney College and the University of Arkansas at Pine-Bluff. He, along with local football players/coaches will lead this exciting camp for both boys and girls.
Week 5 – June 24-28 Eagles’ Volleyball Camp (at RCHS) 9a-12p (Grades 5-8)
Description: Campers will learn the basic principles of the game of volleyball. They will utilize basic physical skills and participate in competitive drills organized within age/skill appropriate groups. Personal water bottle required.
Coach Bio: Coach Pangelina is a PE teacher at the RCE campus. She has coached RCS’ JV Girls volleyball team at Redwood Christians Schools for the past several years. She played high school and club volleyball and has led camp and clinics for aspiring boys and girls.
Week 6 – July 1-3 (Closed Th/Fri, July 4/5) Eagles' Spanish Language Camp (at RCE) 9a-12p (Grades 2-6)

Description:
This camp is designed for those wanting to have fun learning the basics of Spanish. Students will learn basic phrases, fun songs, colors, numbers and much much more. The summer program will include learning the phrases for how to make tortillas and on the last day we'll make the tortillas together. There will also be some wormy science including gummy worms, all in Spanish. Open to students in Grades 2-6. Sign up early to secure one of the 20 spots available.
Coach Bio:
Mrs. Elaine Mendenhall, an alumni of and former teacher at RCS, has taught various levels of high school, middle school and elementary Spanish for over 15 years. She has a multiple subject teaching credential, a single subject Spanish teaching credential and a Masters in Education.
Week 7 – July 8-12 – No Camps Scheduled
Week 8 – July 16-19 (Tues-Fri) Eagles’ Baseball Camp (at RCHS) 10a-1p (Boys ONLY Grades 5-9)
Description: Campers will learn the fundamental principles of the game of baseball. Campers will work on throwing, catching, hitting, fielding and basic pitching mechanics. Although not required, past experience playing baseball will complement competitive drills organized within skill-appropriate groups. Campers are recommended to bring their own bats, helmets and gloves although we do have some equipment to borrow. Cleats are not required but highly recommended especially on the infield dirt. Personal water bottle required.
Coach Bio: Coach Geronimo currently is the JV Head Coach and an assistant on the Varsity team at RCS. Coach Geronimo has been involved in coaching baseball for the past 19 years, from little league to high school levels.
Week 9 – July 22-25 (Mon-Thurs) Cheer Camp (at RCE) 9a-12p (Girls ONLY Grades 4-5)

Description: Cheer Camp is open to RCS girls only entering grades 4th & 5th. This is a beginner cheer camp; teaching the basics of cheerleading. No previous experience is required. Girls will learn the foundations of cheerleading in the following areas: Chants/Cheers, Simple Stunting, Beginner Tumbling, Jumps, and Dance Routine
Coaches’ Bio: Coach Driggers is a current RCMSHS parent and Head Coach for the RCS MSHS Cheer Team. She has extensive personal experience in high school cheer. She also leads young women through her ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ for over 20 years.
Coach Cooper is a current RCE parent and the Assistant Coach for the RCS MSHS Cheer Team. He has extensive personal experience in gymnastics, high school cheer, competitive cheer, as well as in university level cheerleading (Auburn University 2006-2009).
Week 9 – July 22-26 Beginning Robotics (at RCE) 9a-12p (Grades 4-7)

Description: This camp is designed to introduce your camper to the exciting world of robotics using LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Education EV3. Over the course of the camp, students will learn the basics of robotics, including programming, building, and testing their own robots. Campers will work with partners to complete a variety of fun and engaging challenges that will put new skills to the test. The programming environment will be based on the Scratch graphical language. This camp does not assume any familiarity with programming or LEGO MINDSTORMS.
Coach Bio: Coach Warneke is the mother of six children, the five oldest of whom have participated on FIRST LEGO League (FLL) teams. She founded the robotics elective at RCE and taught it for the first three years and most recently has coached the RCMS FLL team for the last few years. Coach Warneke received her Bachelor's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from the UC Berkeley. She will be assisted by two of her sons who were RCMS FLL team members and now student mentors to the team.
Week 9 – July 22-26 Advanced Robotics (at RCE) 1:30-4:30p (Grades 5-9)

Description: This camp is intended for students that have taken the robotics elective at RCE or have equivalent experience. This camp will use LEGO SPIKE Prime sets and cover topics such as advanced line following algorithms, advanced attachment design, debugging techniques, designing a robot to be robust, My Blocks/tasks for code re-use, gyro sensors, and logic operations. Besides the Scratch graphical language, students will be introduced to programming the robot in the Python language. Campers will tackle actual missions from the 2022 FIRST LEGO League SUPERPOWERED season on the competition table as well as some custom missions like shooting a ball. Campers can also work on independent projects.

He continued further to University of Northern Iowa to complete his master’s of music performance. He taught Band at Milpitas Christian School for four years and is excited to be at Redwood Christian Schools as the Band Teacher.
