LEAD 8 INFORMATION:
There are two LEAD options available for incoming grade 8 students. The overall goals of the LEAD programs are to offer students the essential components of physical education and leadership, so they have the opportunity to evolve into confident and active leaders in the community.
To sign-up for either class please email amy.vermeulen@yesnet.yk.ca, or sign-up online above. You can only sign up for one option.
OPTION 1. LEAD 8 Experiential PE: Experiential PE and Traditional Knowledge – Email to sign up, or sign up on-line below. 1 class block in the afternoon, first semester.
OPTION 2. LEAD 8 Hockey Canada Skills Academy. Email to sign up, or sign-up online below. Both afternoon class blocks. Second semester.
Here is the information for both classes:
Option 1: LEAD 8: Experiential PE and Traditional Knowledge
LEAD 8 is intended to help the individual gain self-confidence through success in athletic pursuits, in addition to Aboriginal sports and activities, and take pride in the ability to meet or exceed personal goals and individual competence.
• Course name: PE 8: Experiential PE and Traditional Knowledge
• 1 Block every day, 1st semester (Aug 2024 - Jan. 2025)
• No course fee
• Grade 8 only
• Spots limited (Max of 20).

Option 2: LEAD 8: Hockey Canada Skills Academy
Program Objective:
The goals are to develop a players confidence, skills and self-esteem through hockey and leadership opportunities
• All afternoon (2 blocks), second semester (January- June 2025)
• No Application. $150 course fee
• Grade 8 only (9s are accepted if not filled by 8s)
• Limited number of spots
How do we get there?
Students must find a way to bring their equipment to the school (or have it dropped at the rink). We take the PCSS twenty-passenger bus at 12:15, and we are back in time for the 3:05 bell. Bags are not allowed on school busses.
• Over 30 ice times at the CGC (3-4 ice times a week)
• Off-Ice Classes at PC – fitness, nutrition, resistance training, leadership opportunities, cross-training with other sports
• Goals are to develop a players confidence, skills and self-esteem through hockey and leadership opportunities
