• Native Playwrights Writers Group

Questions? Feel free to email ntp@bagnbaggage.org
  • Welcome to Free Write 40 led by Matt Kizer of Native Writers' Theater! Free WRite 40:

    • opens a virtual space each week
    • provides a writing prompt, which you can use or ignore
    • invites everyone to write for 40 minutes. No introductions, just open up the space, and jump in to writing!
      • If you are part of a writing team, we can set up a breakout room for your team
    • After 40 minutes, you'll have the option to self-select a breakout group, where you can continue writing for 15 more minutes, or share your work, or introduce yourself and meet with other Native writers, or .... !

We have dreams for more, including perhaps an in-person convening, but for now, this program is 100% virtual.

This is a free, open-source program, aimed at building community and sharing resources.

Please reach out to us with any questions: ntp@bagnbaggage.org

  • If theaters contact us about paid opportunities for playwrights, would you like us to share your name? You can choose what else we can share in the next question.
  • We only will share your name and what else you check here:
  • Rows
  • Statement of Native Identity

  • We work to make sure that our writers pool reflects the diversity of NDN Country. We welcome and encourage you to share as much as you'd like. Your information will only be used internally. We do not police identity. AlterTheater's Stance on Serving Native Communities reflects our core values and beliefs. The only people who will read what you write are Native Theater Project's creative director (Jeanette Harrison), Native Writers' Theater's artistic director (Matt Kizer), and NTP's Tribal Liaison/Outreach Coordinator (Tanis Parenteau). Our goal is to tell so many Native stories that all Natives feel represented.

  • Demographic Information (OPTIONAL)

We work to build a writers pool that reflects the full diversity of experiences in NDN Country. We invite you to share as much as you'd like to help us achieve that goal. We are an Indigenous-led, multi-ethnic company made up of people with complicated identities, so we realize that asking folx to check boxes doesn't tell the whole story!
  • What pronouns would you like us to use for you (check any that apply)
  • How would you describe your racial/ethnic identity? (check any that apply)
  • Optional: please check any that apply
  • How did you hear about this program?
  • If we don't have enough room in zoom for all the Indigenous writers who respond, then we will prioritize Native writers, Alaska Native, Hawaiian, and writers Indigenous to the US territories. Our hope is that this space will support all Natives, First Nations writers and writers Indigenous to anywhere in the Americas, and create community among Indigenous writers around the globe.

We'll be in touch with the zoom link! We can't wait to be in a room with you!

Meanwhile, please feel free to reach out to us: ntp@bagnbaggage.org

  • We are committed to always improving in advancing antiracism practices and If there's anything you'd like to share about your experiences with or reactions to this form, please email ntp@bagnbaggage.org.

    Thank you!
