Welcome to Native Theater Project's first program.
We hope to create a supportive space for Native writers. Native Theater Project's overall goal is to support storytelling sovereignty and leadership development for Native creatives. This program is run in collaboration with Native Writers' Theater.
Inspired by AlterTheater's highly successful AlterLab playwright residency program and Native Writers' Theater's wildly popular Free Write 40 (which was in turn inspired by Red Eagle Soaring's Native Theater Thursdays) we will:
- open a virtual space each week
- provide a writing prompt, which you can use or ignore
- invite everyone to write for 40 minutes. No introductions, just open up the space, and jump in to writing!
- After 40 minutes, you'll have the option to self-select a breakout group, where you can continue writing for 15 more minutes, or share your work, or introduce yourself and meet with other Native writers, or .... !
We have dreams for more, including perhaps an in-person convening, but for now, this program is 100% virtual.
This is a free, open-source program, aimed at building community and sharing resources.
