Open Call for Artists:
"1000 Eyes Totem” Wood Sculpture Project - Summer 2024
We are pleased to announce an open call for artists to submit proposals for a large wooden sculpture.
The Wood Sculpture Project will take place in the surroundings of the historical Augustenborg Castle and Sculpture Garden in Augustenborg, Denmark, which has the potential to become part of UNESCO World Heritage List.
The selected wooden sculpture will be made from a 10-meter-tall oak stem, still rooted in the Sculpture Garden. The finished sculpture will be titled “1000 Eyes Totem” and will convey how nature, too, observes the actions of humankind. Our wish for the sculpture is that it will encourage visitors and spectators to reflect on their individual – as well as society’s – interaction with nature.
“1000 Eyes Totem” will serve as nature’s eyes viewing us and reminding us to both observe and live in balance with nature – it’s our human nature.
The intended purpose of the sculpture is to act as a totem to be celebrated at four annual solstices. Therefore, solstice references are welcome in the sculpture.
