I understand that the puppies in my care are legal property of East Mountain Companion Animal Project and their custody cannot be transferred without verbal/text/ or email consent from one of the board of directors. Any decisions made about the adoption, shelter/rescue transfer, euthanasia (rarely but when medical reasons require), or any other type of transfer of custody can be made without my agreeance or opinion, as the pets do not belong to me.
I agree that any medical concerns should be addressed with Chelsea Worley as soon as I notice them. She will then give me instructions on what to do next, whether it is to bring them to the vet, make dietary changes, or any other decision. I will follow the instructions to the best of my ability, and immediately express if I am unable to accommodate the request so that Chelsea can make other arrangements. Important things to report are loss of appetite, severe diarrhea that you suspect is not food change, extreme lethargy, severe coughing, pale or white gums, and anything that seems out of the ordinary for the animal.
I understand that I need to immediately inform a member of the board if I want to adopt an animal in my care. Foster parents who adopt do have the first option to adopt and will receive a 20% discount on the adoption fees, but are not legally the owners until adoption documents are signed and all adoption fees are paid in full. If this has not been accomplished, the animal will remain listed online as an available animal and can be adopted by another qualifying individual. This discount in adoption fees cannot be used for friends or family- strictly the fostering individual.
All of the animals in our care have been given age-appropriate vaccinations and undergone an intake parvo test to prevent animals at risk of parvovirus. This does not mean that puppies are not susceptible to contraction of Parvo, or their ability to spread it unknowingly if they are non-symptomatic. Summertime is especially bad for the virus so please do not take the puppies out into the public, unless you carry them 100% of the time. Please avoid places like Petsmart, dog parks, etc where numerous unvaccinated animals visit daily. This will cut down on the risk of us bringing the virus into foster homes unknowingly.
I understand that the use of social media is a great, free, way to spread information about rescue groups, events, and animals looking for homes. If I am posting pictures of available animals on my social media, I will include the contact number 505-378-9616, as well as tag East Mountain Companion Animal Project whenever possible. In the case of an emergency, you can also contact Keenan Foster at 505-519-4151, if I cannot be reached.
I affirm that I will inform Chelsea of any needed supplies before running out. Please give us at least a two-day buffer period to arrange order pick up or drop off etc for needed supplies. We can provide puppy pads, food, playpens, kennels, toys, and almost anything else you need, as long as we have a little notice so please do not wait until the last minute.
