  • Personal Information Notice

Please be aware that communicating personal information electronically poses a risk to your confidentiality. New Story Behavioral Health uses HIPAA-compliant electronic communication to protect your privacy. New Story Behavioral Health Staff will not disclose any personal information provided on this application form.
  • This application form is used for admission to ongoing or time-limited Confessional Communities™ that meet in-personal locally in Falls Church, VA.

While we do not currently offer virtual Confessional Communities™, we are gathering a list of those interested. As interstate licensing emerges, virtual Confessional Communities™ may be offered in the future.

Please make the appropriate selection below to continue.

  • Applications for our Confessional Community™ Intensives and Training Program™ require a different application. If you are looking for one of these experiences, please return to the previous page and select the appropriate application. Otherwise, deselect "Intensives or Training" above to continue.

  • Application Information

  • Please be prepared to provide additional information about any of the above issues to your screener.

  • Please note that we try to avoid placing participants who have a pre-existing relationship in the same Confessional Community. Discuss any concerns or knowledge of a potential relationship overlap with a New Story staff member.

  • Application Process

  • After you submit your application, a New Story staff member will contact you to schedule an inital Confessional Community ("group") phone screening. If your screener determines that group work is appropriate for you, you will be added to our waitlist. When an opening occurs in one of our groups, a New Story staff member will contact you to discuss the details of the group and, if you wish to proceed, to schedule a 50-minute, in-person screening session with the group leader. If the group leader determines that you are an appropriate fit for the available group, you will work with the group leader to determine your start date.

Availability of openings in our groups vary widely though, generally, accepted applicants will be admitted to a group within a year of being approved. Many factors are considered when determining an applicant's eligibility for group work and we make an effort to "compose" our groups to maximize the effectiveness of the work for group members. As such, some eligible applicants will have longer wait times for admission to a group. Further, a determination of eligibilty does not guarantee admission to a group.

  • Disclaimers and Notices

  • Confessional Communities™ ("groups") offered by New Story Behavioral Health are psychotherapy groups and, as such, constitute mental health treatment. Mental health treatment includes, among other things, the diagnosis of mental disorders, the development of a treatment plan, and collaboration with other providers (psychiatrist, psychotherapist, general practitioner, etc.). Our groups are led by licensed mental health clinicians.

Some health insurance plans provide reimbursement for group psychotherapy services. Participants who are interested in learning more about coverage should contact their health insurance provider and ask if their plan covers "90853," the common CPT code for group psychotherapy.

Participants in groups understand that conversations and interactions in the context of interpersonal groups may, at times, produce emotional discomfort (e.g. anxiety). Participants acknowledge and accept this risk and are reasonably confident in their ability to tolerate emotional discomfort. Participants agree to discuss any mental health concerns with a New Story staff member before participating in group. Mental health concerns that warrant discussion include but are not limited to: active addictions; psychotic episodes; panic attacks; or persistent emotional dysregulation. New Story staff members may at any time suspend a participant’s participation in a group if there are concerns about the participant’s or other participants’ safety or well-being.

Participants agree to maintain strict confidentiality both during and after the Intensive. Confidentiality includes not disclosing other participants’ identifying information or personal content shared by other participants.

Participants may not reproduce any written or digital material obtained from New Story without written permission.

Participation in this service is by application only. Applicants must complete this application form and participate in a screening appointment with a New Story staff member. Acceptance of participation in this service is not guaranteed regardless of an applicant’s previous engagement with New Story. Acceptance of participation in this service does not guarantee other services provided by New Story.
