KT has reportedly agreed on a five-year contract with pitcher Ko Young-pyo. "We have proposed a five-year non-FA contract to Ko Young-pyo, and are coordinating specific terms and conditions," KT said on Sunday. The total amount of the contract is expected to be around 10 billion won (about 9.4 million U.S. dollars). If the contract is signed, it will be the first non-FA multi-year contract in the club's history.
The five-year, 10 billion won is higher than the same pitchers, Lotte Park Se-woong (KRW 9 billion in 2022, five years) and NC Koo Chang-mo (KRW 13.2 billion in 2022, seven years). The largest amount of non-FA multi-year contracts was Kim Kwang-hyun's four-year contract with SSG in 2022.
Ko Young-pyo graduated from Dongguk University and joined KT in 2014. Since his return from the military service in 2021, he has displayed his full capacity of skills and led KT to its first combined victory (2021). He has 55 wins and 50 losses with an average earned run of 3.97. Originally, he was scheduled to become an FA for the first time in his career after the 2024 season, but he embraced KT in advance as it proposed a multi-year contract.
