Girls like options, so each program level comes with the option to purchase a vest or a tunic/sash as the foundation for her uniform.
This is an example of a Daisy Vest with the starting Insignia. On the top left (which will sit on the Girl Scout's right shoulder), there's an American Flag, then right below it is the Council ID, and then below that are the troop numbers. If the troop has voted on a Troop Crest, that will go in between the Council ID and the troop numbers. On the right side of the picture (the Girl Scout's left side) is the insignia tab. On the top of the tab is the World Association Pin, and below that is the Membership Pin. The World Association Pin can stay with the girl through her entire time in Girl Scouts. The Membership Pin pictured, however, is specific to the Daisy level. Brownies also have a specific Membership Pin, and then from Junior level up, the Membership Pin will be the same.
What about a sash?
If your Girl Scout has opted for a sash instead of a vest, the major difference is that the member will wear the Insignia Tab on her shirt on the left side as is shown below. This sash photo also has an example of the placement of a Troop Crest.

The American Flag patch goes on the top of the left side of the vest (the girl's right side, when she's wearing it), or at the topmost part of the front of a sash.
Council ID sets are placed underneath the American Flag on the left side of the uniform (the girl's right side).Our Council ID will say "New Mexico Trails" on the lower half.
Troop Crests are voted on by troops, and not all troops choose to have them. If your girl's troop has voted on a Crest, it'll go below the Council ID patch, and above the Troop Number.
This will be your Troop Number, and will go directly below the Council ID unless the troop has voted on a Troop Crest, in which case, it will go directly below that.
This is a clutch-back pin tab that will be pinned on the girl's left side. This will hold the World Association Pin and the Membership Pin.
The World Trefoil Pin shows that you are part of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). On it are three leaves representing the Girl Scout Promise, with a flame that stands for loving all the people in the world. The compass needle is to guide you, and the two stars are the Girl Scout Promise and Law. The outer circle represents the World Association, and the golden yellow trefoil on a bright blue background stands for the sun shining over the children of the world. ¾" round. Center this pin above the Girl Scout Membership Pin. Place it in the same position on the insignia tab.
This is the Daisy level Membership Pin, and will be pinned to the lower half of the girl's Insignia Tab.
