but wants to challenge the course.
Students may challenge a course for which they do not meet a course’s recommended achievement range. Recommended courses of study are based on several factors; (a) teacher recommendation, (b) previous grades in similar courses, and (c) student’s assessed ability.
Prior to signing, please note the following information regarding Honors/AP classes: (a) the curriculum is more intense, in-depth and covered at a faster pace; (b) study time and homework will be increased substantially; and (c) projects and assignments will be assessed at a higher level. Therefore, the course may be more demanding than previous courses of study the student has taken. The student will be entering into a rigorous course of study, and additional time on assignments and a variety of resources will be required to be successful in the class.
My student and I understand that by challenging a course the student is choosing a course of study contrary to the teacher’s or counselor’s recommendations, and that the student must remain in the challenged course for the entire year.
