    Program Overview:


    The Bridges Summer STEAM Academy featuring CSU Summer Algebra Institute (SAI), collectively known as "Program," is a four-week STEAM enrichment program designed to prepare students entering the 6th through 12th grades in the Fall for success in their mathematics and other courses, introduce college preparation process and expose students to STEAM-related activities and careers. The program features live and computer-based math instruction to improve students’ content knowledge, reasoning, communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Students will receive college preparation resources and exposure to college culture through college campus tours and participate in a culmination activity at the end of the program to mark program completion and their achievements.  

    Program Dates: Thursday, June 20th - Friday July 19th

    Program Days: Monday - Friday

    Program Times: 8:00am - 5:30pm (approved early dismissal at 2:00pm)

    How to Apply:


    To participate in the program, students must currently have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and at least a C in their current math course and commit to attending all five weeks of the program. If you have met these requirements, complete and submit the application below and return all required materials by the application deadline. Please follow the instructions carefully to submit a completed application. Forward supporting documents to info@bridgescedc.org or fax to (310) 538-9244 


    Deadline to Apply:


    Submit your completed application for  consideration by the Deadline. Early submission is strongly recommended to secure a spot, as students from prior year have begun to secure their spots. Applications received after the deadline will be waitlisted. Waitlisted applications will be accepted in the order received until the class reaches capacity. Classes are small, and space is limited.

    Program Fee: $455 (Scholarships available for all eligible students). A deposit of $155 (representing the registration fee) is due due upon acceptance into the Program. The final payment is due by the first day of class (June 20th) and will be adjusted to reflect the scholarship awarded. No eligible student will be denied an available spot because of inability to pay. 

    After the application is received, reviewed, and approved, a payment link will be emailed.

    Report Card:


    All applicants are required to submit a copy of their most recent report card before the application deadline. Your application will be considered incomplete without a copy of the report card. Report cards will not be returned, so please provide a copy that we can keep.


    Program Expectations:


    Students are to attend daily, complete all assignments and conduct themselves according to the program code of conduct. Students who do not adhere to the expected policies will be dismissed from the program.  There is a zero tolerance expectation for misbehavior.  Students and parent/ guardian are required to sign a Statement of Commitment at the end of the application.

     

    Accuracy and Completeness:

    Inaccurate or incomplete applications will delay or forfeit your spot in the program. For this reason, it is important that you fill out all required fields completely and accurately and submit the required documents timely.

    I will attend all classes promptly and regularly. I will complete all class assignments and conduct myself according to the organization's Student Code of Conduct standards. By participating in this program, I agree to have my likeness photographed and/or videotaped for use in program-related content. The organization will not distribute for commercial use.  




    Parent/ Guardian Commitment

    I, *   give my child   *  permission to participate in the summer program at Bridges Community Economic Development Corp ("Bridges"). I will attend the Parent/Student orientation and other required Parent/Guardian meetings and support my child's participation in the summer program. I give my permission to release my child’s academic records to Bridges for evaluation of student academic eligibility. By participating in this program, I agree to have my likeness photographed and/or videotaped to use in program related content. The organization will not distribute for commercial use.

  • Policies and Procedures

  • 1. Students must be on time. 

    2. Parents/ Guardians must pickup students on time. No later than 5:30pm

    3. Upon arrival Students/Parents/ Guardians will sign attendance sheets with all information being accurate and legible. 

    4. Students must remain inside the building especially when waiting for their parents to pick them up. Students are not permitted to wait outside of the building for any reason. 

    5. Student must be respectful to all adult staff as well as each other at all times. 

    6. Students must wear appropriate dress attire. No exposed waists or undergarments. 

    7. Computers are for academic use only. Other activity such as playing games, downloading pictures, music, etc. are not allowed and may lead to dismissal from the program. 

    8. All required documents need to be signed and submitted in a timely manner. 

    9. The following will NOT be tolerated: 

         a. playing or loud talking during classroom sessions 

         b. profanity 

         c. hitting or fighting 

         d. magazines in the classroom unless used for academic purposes 

         e. hats, caps or “do-rags” 

         f. food or drinks in computer labs 

         g. cell phones and electronic devices turned on during classroom                  sessions 

         h. drugs or alcoholic beverages 

         i. weapons (real and imitation) 

    10. Bullying will NOT be tolerated. 

    Disobeying these rules will result in a conference with the staff, the student and parents/guardians and may result in dismissal from the program.
