Tuesday, February 20, 6:10-8:00pm
Rubenstein Library - 349 Breedlove Conference Room
A small group conversation based on a reading of "This Child Will Be Great," an autobiography of Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the first woman president of an African nation.
Dr. Jonathan Quick, Adjunct professor of Global Health at Duke, will facilitate the conversation. Dr. Seun Bello Olamosu will introduce and moderate the gathering. Participants are expected to become familiar with the reading prior to the Conversation. A digital copy of “This Child Will Be Great” will be provided after your registration.
In the reading, Sirleaf provides candid insights into her identities as a loving mother, abused wife, financial technocrat, corporate executive, political rebel, a woman of faith, president, and — most notably — an indefatigable fighter for the safety, opportunities, dignity, and rights of women. Her story is a remarkable one. Her reflections on prayer, suffering, and courage may offer vital life & leadership lessons for us who are open to bringing reform, justice, and greater flourishing within our spheres of influence.
Light refreshments will be provided.
