    Seminars in the United States & Canada

    Applicants must:

    1. Be at least twenty-five (25) years of age
    2. Submit one reference from a current NRHA Judge. NRHA Judges Committee chair may not be used as a reference.
    3. Submit one professional character and conduct reference.
    4. Have been a member of NRHA in good-standing for 24-months prior to the date of application before he or she can be considered for approval as an NRHA Judge. (See the Judges Section of the NRHA Handbook for more details).
      1. Any disciplinary action taken by NRHA within the last 10 years will be evaluated by the Judges Committee upon submission of application.
    5. Have reviewed, agreed to, and signed the Judges' Code of Ethics (Included in the end of this application).
       

     

    International Seminars (excluding Canada)

    Applicants must:

    1. Be at least 25 years of age.
    2. Submit one reference from a current NRHA Judge. NRHA Judges Committee chair may not be used as a reference.
    3. Submit one professional character and conduct reference.
    4. Have been a member of NRHA in good-standing for 24 months prior to the date of application before he or she can be considered for approval as an NRHA Judge. (See the Judges Section of the NRHA Handbook for more details).

    5. Have reviewed, agreed to, and signed the Judge's Code of Ethics (Included in the end of this application).
    6. Those attending without testing do not have age or membership requirements.

    The NRHA Judges Committee will review all complete applications and vote on which applicants they wish to invite to attend the applicant seminar.

  • Designated judges of the National Reining Horse Association should reflect a culture of ethics, integrity, and honor.

    • Judges shall master both the rules of the sport and the critical thinking and mechanics necessary to enforce the rules and evaluation system.
    • Judges shall prepare themselves both physically and mentally, shall dress professionally and appropriately, and shall conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the high standards of our profession.
    • Judges shall be punctual and professional in the fulfillment of all contractual obligations.
    • Judges shall remain mindful that their conduct reflects on the industry and the respect which members, professionals, and the public have for officials and judging as a whole.
    • Judges shall work with each other, show management, and designated officials in a constructive and cooperative manner.
    • Judges shall understand and acknowledge that the privilege of serving as an NRHA-approved judge is bestowed upon an individual by the Judges Committee with support from the Board of Directors, and a judge’s conduct is subject to Judges Committee and Board review.


    All NRHA judges are to undertake to comply and ensure compliance with the NRHA Judges’ Code of Ethics, reflecting integrity and professionalism as they serve as role models within the industry.


    By signing this, I agree to:

    • act in a manner which conveys respect for the NRHA, membership, exhibitors, and colleagues;
    • uphold and apply the rules, exhibiting conviction to judge by the rules and disqualify those in violation;
    • refrain from any act involving fraud, corruption, or in a manner likely to tarnish the reputation of the National Reining Horse Association;
    • ensure the safety, well-being, and welfare of exhibitors and equids;
    • refrain from placing myself in any position which gives the appearance that a conflict of interest exists;
    • exhibit respect and courtesy for colleagues at all times;
    • judge with a positive attitude;
    • disqualify myself from any business or situation in which my integrity and fairness will be compromised due to a conflict of interest, personal bias or prejudice;
    • engage in activities which will promote the public confidence and integrity of the reining industry in pursuit of the common goal to improve our industry;
    • attend to all business in a prompt, impartial and courteous manner;
    • refrain from alcohol consumption or being under the influence of alcohol while performing official duties;
    • promptly report to the Chairperson of the Judging Committee any attempt by third parties to bribe or otherwise influence me in officiating capacities;
    • refuse acceptance of any sort of remuneration or consideration that constitutes a bribe or could reasonably be construed as a bribe or an attempt to influence me in my officiating capacities;
    • and act, at all times, with the highest degree of integrity and, particularly when making decisions, I will act with impartiality, professionalism, objectivity, and independence.
