  • SLIDING SCALE PRICING

    Tickets for workshops are sold on a sliding scale and we encourage you to pay according to your available resources. Those with greater financial privilege contribute more, allowing those with less access to pay according to their means. This allows Franconia to sustain its services while making accessibility as broad as possible. Sliding scale prices can be seen in the dropdown menus.

    Handmade Watercolor Paint - March 28, 1-4PM

    Join returning instructor Wóokiye Wiŋ in the creation of handmade watercolor paints from dry pigment and learn about the process of extracting pigment from foraged earth pigments. Participants may bring small containers or shells to store paint and will take home a few small pans of watercolor paint (half pans will be provided).

    Join Kimberly Boustead and learn how to create drawing charcoal from invasive buckthorn. Special guest Maria Young from Wild Rivers Conservancy will educate participants on the history and management of buckthorn in our area. Participants will have some time to draw with their handmade charcoal

    Spoon Carving - April 25, 1-4PM

    AGES 12 AND UP. Learn how to carve a spoon from a fresh cut tree using traditional Nordic carving techniques. Jess will cover tree anatomy, axing out a blank (roughed out spoon shape), knife holds for the hook & sloyd knife, drying, and finishing. This class is great for the beginner or the person wanting to learn Sloyd style carving. Pants and closed-toed shoes required!

    Sketching in Nature - May 16, 1-4PM

    Sketching plants or fungi directly from nature deepens observations and awareness of our subjects, ourselves and of our relationships with nature. With guidance from natural science illustrator and artist Vera Ming Wong, explore techniques for capturing gesture, shapes and forms of native plants in a restored prairie, while gaining insight into the characters and ecological niches of various species. Materials provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own favorites.

    FREE to all! Join natural science illustrator Vera Ming Wong for a group sketch outing at Franconia. Participants will sketch for a few hours using their own materials and then have a chance to share their work with the group. There will be no instruction or teaching for this experience,  participants must bring all their own supplies.

    Colors may be slightly different in the final design. Diving Lady design will use a medium skin tone. If you'd like to personalize the skin tone, you can reach out to Abby at abby.kosberg@gmail.com.

    PHOTOGRAPHY POLICY

    I hereby give my permission for images of me and each of the participants in my party captured during the workshop through video, photo, and digital means, to be used solely for the purposes of Franconia Sculpture Park promotional material, publications and grant reporting, in print and online, and I waive any rights of compensation or ownership thereto.

    REFUND & CANCELLATION POLICY

    No refunds will be given in the event that participants are unable to attend a workshop. On a case by case basis, Franconia may allow people to transfer their registration to a different workshop.

    In the case of cancellation due to weather or other extenuating circumstance, Franconia Sculpture Park will attempt to reschedule the workshop. In the event that this is not possible, a full refund will be returned to each participant.

    RELEASE OF LIABILITY

    I understand that this workshop requires light physical activity and that Franconia is not responsible or liable for injury.
