    The Triathlon Ireland community coaching programme is part of the Triathlon Ireland  Development programme. A Triathlon Ireland coach will commit to supporting the aims of the community and youth programmes outlined below and creating an athlete centred environment at all times. 

    The aims of the programmes are to: 

    • Introduce people to Triathlon.
    • Deliver community programmes to underrepresented groups and provide onramps to the sport through programme development, club and event links.
    • Provide a fun and engaging environment in which to learn triathlon skills.
    • Help athletes reach their full potential whatever this means for each athlete.
    • Support the athletes to learn more about themselves as an individual while being part of a training group outside of their club.
    • Create a link between the community,  clubs, hubs, races and in some instances the High Performance Unit.


    Role of the Community Coach:


    The Community coach will plan and deliver sessions in club and community settings.
    These include New to Tri, junior camps, splash and dash, Tri heroes. This list is not exhaustive and the coach may also explore other avenues to develop multi-sport in the community. 

    Community coaches will support other coaches in their development. 

    Community coaches are representatives of Triathlon Ireland and must operate to the highest standards in terms of providing safe sessions for all participants and best practice in relation to safeguarding for young athletes.


    Mandatory Requirements of a TI Coach

    Qualifications

    • Maintain your coaching qualification through Continued Professional Development and revalidation on the World Triathlon hub.
    • Engage with 2 x CPD annually provided by Triathlon Ireland 
    • Attend one in person meeting/networking day for hubs and community coaches.
    • Maintain your Safeguarding requirements - Garda vetting/Access NI, Safeguard training (SNI/SI) and submit an annual code of conduct.
    • Maintain your Anti Doping certification (WADA HP Coach).
    • Maintain your first aid qualification.


    Triathlon Ireland will support coaches through CPD, mentor support and coach developer support.

    The Community Coach role does not constitute an offer of employment, individuals will invoice for services provided.
