Transition Process
Land Acquisition: The land is currently privately owned, with a guaranteed long-term $1/year lease for the non-profit. What is your proposal for the land transfer? Would it transfer to new private ownership, or to another model? For example, the non-profit itself purchases the land, another non-profit entity purchases the land, a land trust purchases the land, an agrarian commons is created, etc. We are open to creative models that ensure the guaranteed 5-year minimum $1/yr lease for Unadilla Community Farm to ensure continuation of its operations.
*
Timeline: Our ideal timeline is that the sale of the land and election of new board members would be completed during spring of 2024, to allow the new team to experience the full 2024 season from start to finish during the onboarding process. Current senior staff and board leadership will onboard the new team throughout the 2024 season. Current contracts for senior staff will conclude at the end of the year, at which point the leadership transition would be complete. Is this timeline doable for you, or if not, what is feasible?
*
The land is priced at $50,000. Is the incoming team finance ready? E.g. is there a confirmed source of capital for the land purchase? Would the sale be outright in cash, or would a mortgage be needed?
*
Are you interested in purchasing the tiny home (priced at $25,000) along with the land? We recommend acquiring the tiny home with the land as it has been integral to the farm operations, particularly with the attached greenhouse for starting seedlings.
