  • Alfrenia Young-Hampton Scholarship

     

    The Alfrenia Young-Hampton Scholarship was established in memoriam for Mrs. Alfrenia Young-Hampton, former educator and board member of East St. Louis School District #189. Mrs. Hampton was a community activist and belonged to several civic, social and service organizations such as the Elks, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and most notably, East St. Louis Alumnae Chapter - Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

    The Alfrenia Young-Hampton Scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating female senior in School District #189 who will attend a 4-year college/university in the fall of 2024 or immediately upon her graduation. Disbursement of the scholarship funds will occur in the fall, upon verification of acceptance and enrollment in a college or university. Failure to provide verification of acceptance and enrollment will result in the forfeiture of the scholarship. This scholarship is a one-time award is not deferrable or transferable.

    All Scholarship Awards will be communicated by March 31, 2024.

    Applicants must meet the following criteria:

    1. Be a graduating female high school senior within School District #189.
    2. Submit a completed application.
    3. Submit a 2-page demonstrative essay outlining applicant’s activities in the following areas:
      1. Good citizenship
      2. Academic excellence
      3. Public service
      4. Desire to excel in future endeavors
    4. Submit an academic transcript.
    5. All information must be completed in its entirety and submitted by the deadline. Incomplete submissions will be excluded from further review and deemed ineligible. Entries received after the February 29, 2024 deadline will not be considered.

  • Bessie B. Garvin Educational Scholarship

     

    The Bessie B. Garvin Educational Scholarship was established by the East St. Louis Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated in memory of charter member, Bessie B. Garvin, who was also a well-known educator in the East St. Louis public school system.

    The Bessie B. Garvin Educational Scholarship is awarded annually to graduating African-American female seniors in the East St. Louis Metro East community who will attend a 4-year college/university in the fall or immediately upon her graduation. Disbursement of the scholarship funds will occur in the fall, upon verification of acceptance and enrollment in a college or university. Failure to provide verification of acceptance and enrollment will result in the forfeiture of the scholarship. Each scholarship is a one- time award in the amount of $1,000.00 and is not deferrable or transferable.

    All scholarship awards will be communicated by March 31, 2024.

    Applicants must meet the following criteria:

    1. Be a graduating African-American high school senior (female) within the following communities:Belleville, Cahokia, East St. Louis, Madison or O’Fallon, Illinois, having attended public high school for the past two years.
    2. 2.Have a minimum of 2.5/4.0 Grade Point Average.
    3. Submit a completed application.
    4. Submit an official academic transcript.
    5. Submit ACT or SAT scores.
    6. Submit two (2) letters of recommendation (form link included)
    7. All information must be completed in its entirety and submitted together by the deadline.Incomplete submissions will be excluded from further review and deemed ineligible. Entries received after the February 29, 2024 deadline will not be considered.

    The ESLAC Past Presidents Educational Book Scholarship Award was established by the East St. Louis Alumnae Chapter Past Presidents of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated in 2017.

    The ESLAC Past Presidents Educational Book Scholarship Award is awarded annually to deserving graduating African-American female seniors in the East St. Louis Metro East community who will attend a 4-year college/university in the fall or immediately upon graduation. Disbursement of the scholarship funds will occur in the fall, upon verification of acceptance and enrollment in a college or university. Failure to provide verification of acceptance and enrollment will result in the forfeiture of the scholarship. This scholarship is a one-time award in the amount of $500.00 and should be used specifically for the purchase of books and is not deferrable or transferable.

    All Scholarship Awards will be communicated by March 31, 2024.

    Applicants must meet the following criteria:


    1.Be a graduating African-American high school senior (female) within the following communities: Belleville, Cahokia, East St. Louis, Madison or O’Fallon, Illinois, having attended public high school for the pasttwo years.

    2.Have a minimum of 2.8/4.0 Grade Point Average.

    3.Submit an academic transcript.

    4.Submit ACT or SAT scores.

    5.Submit a completed application.

    6.Submit two (2) letters of recommendation (forms included in application packet)

    7.Must submit a one-page typed statement, with a minimum of one hundred words, from the applicant,describing their character, personal interests and future plans (included in application).

    8.All information must be completed in its entirety and submitted together by the deadline. Incompletesubmissions will be excluded from further review and deemed ineligible. Entries received after the February 29, 2024 deadline will not be considered.

  • Ruby Allen Ellis Economic Empowerment Scholarship

     

    The Ruby Allen Ellis Economic Empowerment Scholarship was established by the East St. Louis Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and Delta Economic Development Corporation in memory of and partnership with the family of Ruby Allen-Ellis, who was a champion for education and economic development and a member of Delta Sigma Theta. Ruby Allen Ellis was a valiant community leader who made significant strides in the areas of coalition building among major organizations, government agencies and civic leaders, and enhanced project partnerships that included: Community Job Fairs, support to Habitat for Humanity, establishing the first "Youth Entrepreneur Workshops" that enriched the lives of the underserved and disenfranchised in our community.

    The Ruby Allen Ellis Economic Empowerment Scholarship is awarded annually to graduating African- American female seniors in the East St. Louis Metro East community who will attend a 4-year college/university in the fall or immediately upon her graduation. Disbursement of the scholarship funds will occur in the fall, upon verification of acceptance and enrollment in a college or university. Failure to provide verification of acceptance and enrollment will result in the forfeiture of the scholarship. Each scholarship is a one-time award in the amount of $1,000.00 and is not deferrable or transferable.

    All Scholarship Awards will be communicated by March 31, 2024.

    Applicants must meet the following criteria:

    Be a graduating African-American high school senior (female) within the following communities: Belleville, Cahokia, East St. Louis, Madison or O’Fallon, Illinois, having attended public high school for the past two years.
    Have a demonstrated financial need for educational assistance.

  • Lieutenant Colonel Lionel and Jacquline Settles Scholarship Award

     

    The Lieutenant Colonel Lionel and Jacquline Settles Scholarship Award was established in memoriam for Lieutenant Colonel Lionel Settles, retired Assistant Chief of Police, East St. Louis Police Department and Jacquline Rose Settles, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. since 1970. Lt. Col Settles who passed away November 18, 2023, strongly believed in academic excellence and insisted upon it within his family and among his young police officers in training. His beloved wife of 57 years, Jacquline, established this scholarship in his honor.

    Lieutenant Colonel Lionel and Jacquline Settles Scholarship Award is presented annually to deserving graduating African-American female seniors in the East St. Louis Metro East community who will attend a 4-year college/university in the fall or immediately upon graduation. Disbursement of the scholarship funds will occur in the fall, upon verification of acceptance and enrollment in a college or university. Failure to provide verification of acceptance and enrollment will result in the forfeiture of the scholarship. This scholarship is a one-time award in the amount of $1000.00 and should be used specifically for the purchase of books, computers/software, supplies, and other educational items needed to support academic excellence and is not deferrable or transferable.

    All scholarship awards will be communicated by March 31, 2024.
