We understand it can be quite a process and lots of information is requested. This is to ensure that we are able to pair you with a suitable foster dog that you will enjoy getting to know and help! To do so we need to know all about you and your family, the enviroment you offer, and your experience or skill level in fostering.

Our requirements for foster parents are:
- We are only utilising foster parents based in Christchurch or Canterbury, where we are based.
- Able to provide a healthy and safe environment for the foster dog. Including a small fenced in area for toileting.
- Unfortunately, as rescue dogs can be unpredictable at times, we cannot accept families with children under the age of 5 years old. Children in the home must be doggy-aware and confident.
- Enough free time required to successfully observe and assist a foster dog - Sorry this does tend to rule out full time (out of the home) workers! Those working part time or from home 2-3 days per week, please do contact us
- Be able to make the commitment to being a foster parent for an undetermined amount of time, as we never know how long dogs will be in care for!
You provide the love, safe home and nurturing to ensure they thrive! We provide any items you need to foster, fund their medical treatment and also have a supportive foster team, vets and Animal Trainer to assist or advise you as required.

FENCING: Implementing toilet-training is an essential part of readying dogs for their future forever home, it's important to consider where your foster dog will toilet.

Please take a moment to assess the condition of your current fencing. Determine whether it is suitable as-is or if it requires any additional repairs. If you have a fully-fenced backyard, please consider its adequacy. For those with rural or farm fencing, think about whether any modifications or repairs are necessary. Additionally, consider the need for a sturdy pen or another fenced area for supervised toileting, if applicable. Ensuring a secure environment is essential for the well-being of the dogs in your care.

When dogs enter foster care, they often experience confusion and anxiety, which may lead them to seek ways to escape the property. They can slip through small fence gaps or dig underneath fencing, while some may even climb low fences or pens. Given these challenges, we must ensure that our foster parents have secure fencing to prevent any escape attempts. This allows the dogs the time they need to adjust to their new foster homes safely.
