Oodles of Love Puppy Application
  • Oodles of Love Puppy Application

Miniature Poodles & Doodles of the Cayman Islands
  • Puppy Adoption Application

We know many families have two working adults and we don't expect anyone to be a super hero and quit a day job just to be able to take home a puppy. Every puppy family has different needs, and this information form helps us identify who needs what information and what homes might make the best fit. If you're a veteran puppy owner, we don't want to waste your time going over things you already know; by the same token, if this is your first puppy, we want to make sure you leave prepared for what life with a Oodles of Love puppy may bring.

  • WHAT TO EXPECT

  • GOING HOME: We cannot hold puppies for extended times without planning in advance; it is critical for their social development that the litter departs within a reasonable timeframe. If you have a big vacation planned or have events that would conflict with a young puppy, please know puppies cannot be boarded in a kennel facility until they have received their full immunizations and they cannot travel off island with you until they have had their rabies vaccination which cannot be done until 3 months of age.

  • CONTRACT: We have a contract and will not place a puppy without a signed contract. We believe it's the professional thing to do to memorialize our obligations to each other on paper so there are no questions later, and for that reason it's a bit lengthy. If you have questions about specific terms, you need to contact us prior to picking up your puppy.

  • SPAY/NEUTER: We reccomend spay/neuter AFTER 6-9 months to ensure the puppy is able to grow properly and reduce/eliminate the chance of health issues in the future.

Sterilization of your dog will increase his/her chance of a longer and healthier life. Altering your canine friend will increase life expectancy an average of 1 to 3 years. Altered animals have a very low to no risk of mammary gland tumors/cancer, prostate cancer, perianal tumors, pyometria, and uterine, ovarian and testicular cancers. Sterilizing your dog makes him/her a better pet, decresing agressive behaviour, reducing his/her urge to roam and decreasing the risk of contracting diseases or getting hurt as they roam. Surveys indicate that as many as 85% of roaming dogs hit by cars are unaltered. It also helps to reduce companion animal overpopulation. Most countries have a surplus of companion animals and are forced to euthanize or disregard their great suffering. Here in Cayman we have a lot of "backyard breeders", breeding in environments (puppy mill standards) that are not suitable to a good quality prodgny. We want to make sure we take extra precautions to prevents this from happening to ANY of our puppies.

We have a strict take-back provision in our contract. Any puppy from our home always has a home here, and will never experience the fear and burden of life at a shelter or moving from home to home. Because we take cradle-to-grave "original home" responsibility for the puppies we created, we require that you notify us if you can no longer keep your dog, for ANY reason.

  • REGISTRATION PAPERS: Our excellent family companions do come with registration papers to AKC registry, but only for the Miniature Poodles. You are free to register your dog with the AKC should you desire to enter events and competitions.

Will my Goldendoodle come with AKC paperwork? The short answer is “no.” Goldendoodles can’t be AKC registered. Wondering why? Read on.

AKC registration is only for dogs who come from a long history of purebred dogs. That means the dog, the dog’s parents, and the dog’s ancestors are all purebred dogs. (As an aside, Goldendoodles don’t have AKC papers either because the breed’s not part of the registry.)

Purebred dogs include breeds like the Poodle, Labrador Retriever, and Golden Retriever, just to name a few. In all, there are over 197 breeds of all sizes, shapes, and colors on the AKC’s breed registry.

So why isn’t the Goldendoodle one of the 197 on the AKC? Since the Goldendoodle is a cross between the Golden Retriever and the Poodle, the Goldendoodle is not a purebred dog.

To take it a step further, if a Goldendoodle’s parents are a purebred Poodle or purebred Golden Retriever and the parents are AKC, that does not make the offspring purebred. Breeding two purebred dogs of different breeds results in a crossbred dog.

This is true for other Doodle dogs, too, such as Labradoodles and Aussiedoodles.

  • WAITING LIST: Our excellent family companions don't go to just ANY home. Once we have carefully reviewed and approved your application, you will be contacted to place a deposit to be added to the Waiting List.
We want the adoption experience to work for all parties involved, but we are always here (before or after your puppy goes home with you) if you have any training, health, or upbringing questions. We also will provide regular preparation tips to help your family prepare to bring your little one home.
We know that adopting one of our dogs takes more forethought than adopting from the pet store across the street, so we are relying on the fact that you’ve thought this through before committing.
We will ALWAYS TAKE OUR PUPPIES BACK if you decide you are unable to care for them, but will not refund you unless there has been a breach of contract on our part.
