  • Change of Physical State: Metal Stone and Glass

    ABOUT.  Artists manipulate metal, stone, and glass to change their physical state, the form the materials take before us. In this exhibit, Change of Physical States works to highlight the mediums Materials and Modes included in this call: metalwork, jewelry, blacksmithing, metal casting, welding, stone carving, stone jewelry, found metal sculptures, glass mosaics, fused glass, blown glass, stained glass, and other artworks that feature the materials as a significant component of the artwork.

    MEDIA. Each artist can submit Up to Three (3) 

    • Works that hang on the wall and fill wall space for the exhibition will be given preference due to large amounts of wall space and the mediums predominantly being 3-D.
    •  2-D (on Wall) work may not exceed 2,000 sq. inches and 3-D Work (displayed on a pedestal, installed on a wall or floor) may not exceed five (5) feet in all dimensions.
    • All work must arrive ready for hanging or installation.
      The gallery uses a track system for 2-D artwork. Artwork should be able to hang from a wire, picture ring, or other compatible hanging methods. No single nail clips or saw tooth hangers are acceptable Check with the curator if unsure.
    • Art must NOT have been shown before at the CVA.
    • Art MUST be original and created within the last two years
      Work left at the CVA 30 days after the exhibit ends or where no return shipping arrangements are made will become the property of the CVA.
    • The CVA reserves the right not to display work that fails to meet expectations.
    • Work must be original to the artist's
      • original artwork would, for example, be the first version of a painting an artist creates, not any subsequent prints, reproductions, or imitations of the artwork.
      • Artists may use reference photos they took themself, or study from multiple references to create a composition that is unique to the new work.

    Reception: Saturday, August 10, 5 - 7 pm, 2024

    Pick-up: August 10, 7:15 - 8:15 pm(Night of Reception), August 11, 3-4 pm, August 12 - 15 10 am - 4 pm 

     

    Juror: Masako Onodera

    Masako Onodera utilizes craft techniques in her art and connects the audience emotionally to the materials and practices employed. Her creations suggest an experience of the body altered by the tactile and visual characteristics of the object.


    Onodera’s art is exhibited nationally and internationally in curated and juried exhibitions and is included in many private and public collections such as Toledo Museum of Art in OH, Mint Museum in NC, and Racine Art Museum in WI. She is the recipient of the Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award and a Mid-career Educational Endowment Scholarship from the Society of North American Goldsmiths. Her work is published in journals and books, such as Metalsmith Magazine, the Art Jewelry Today, the Lark 500 series, and ACTIVA from Design Deffusion Edizioni, Milan, Italy. She graduated with an MFA in Metals from the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign and currently is a Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie, WI.
