As the Cheshire Community Action Team (CCAT) plans community events for 2024, we are seeking input from our community members to help enhance our programming and bring more exciting activities to our community, with your input!

CCAT Summer Arts Program

For the third year, CCAT is pleased to host a summer arts program in Cheshire! Previously, there were two programs: one for children (1st-5th grade) and one for adults. This year, CCAT is adding a story time for preschoolers and toddlers (book reading, small craft & books to take home). We do require a supervisor for the youngsters in the younger groups as this is not "drop off care" and the goal is to provide fun for parents/older siblings to work together in the activity.
Would you like to see the youth activities be geared only toward art or combined with other activities (e.g., "Kids in Motion", "Self Safety", Fire/Police Demonstrations, Yoga). Please list any suggestions below:
Do you have a special talent or interest you can share during our youth programming?
We plan for a 6 week session in the summer for art/activity events for specific days and times, although the "teachers" may change which enables a variety of offerings. You nor your children need to attend all sessions but we do require advance registration. Is there a day or time better for your schedule?

Summer Concerts in the Park

For the third year, CCAT is planning to offer several concerts in Cheshire's Pierce Park from 6PM - 7:30/8 PM on Tuesdays.
Do you have a favorite type of music or band you would like CCAT to look into for performing? CCAT will offer a couple “Hootenanny” type concerts - one gospel and another free-form, would you like to bring an instrument or perform? All ages are welcome for these fun events! Please leave comments/suggestions below:

CCAT is always looking for additional community members to be involved with our organization. There are several different ways you can help, please indicate below which areas might be of interest to you! Any help is always appreciated!

In addition to above described activities, CCAT plans to offer several other activities over 2024 (i.e., Annual Easter Egg Hunt, Community Day/Garage Sale Weekend, Halloween activities, Memorial Day Celebration/Rt 21 flag placement, "A Christmas Carol" performance, weekly Qi-gong classes, flags/wreaths at Pine Bank Cemetery for Veterans Day/Christmas). We ask that you notice these and take a moment to know that CCAT is thinking of current, future and historical residents of Cheshire. Would you like to help?

CCAT is considering participating in New York State Department of Transportation’s Adopt-A-Highway program witch promotes active clean-up of neighborhoods. The team will meet on a Saturday morning (2x/year in spring & fall) to pick up litter on both sides of Rt. 21 from Rock Oak Hill Rd. to Deuel Rd and on Wells Curtice to the eastern boundary of Pine Cemetery (approx 1.7 miles). With 8-10 volunteers, this would take about an hour. Regulations require a very brief training and CCAT supervision, DOT equipment will be provided. Ages 13 and over who would like to participate are welcome!

Work on the Cheshire Theater & Meeting Hall (CTMH) restoration project is well underway & CCAT looks forward to hosting events in the space. CCAT & the Cheshire Union had a great "History of Cheshire" display last spring and look forward to developing a permanent "History Room" when the building is completed. Do you have articles or information you would like displayed?
CCAT would like to plan presentations/guest speaker events for the community. Topics could range from the history of Cheshire to sharing recipes. Do you have any additional suggestions or ideas?

Join the CCAT team! Beyond the above volunteer opportunities, CCAT is always looking for more permanent members - both board of directors & general community support members. CCAT typically holds a monthly meeting on the first Tuesday of the month at 6pm in Cheshire. You can drop into a meeting at any time!
