    Application Form

    2024-2025 Scholar

    INFORMATION

The goal of this monetary award is to defray all or part of the cost of a young hand surgeon’s visit(s) to a national or international center of excellence in order to learn necessary operative or research techniques that will be utilized early in the surgeon’s academic practice of hand, upper extremity, or microsurgery.  Any hand surgeon can apply who has successfully completed an accredited fellowship within the past four years, and who has begun their surgical practice in a center where either residents and/or fellows are taught.  Applicants must be candidate members of the ASSH.  Only one Gelberman Scholar will be selected each year.

The Gelberman Scholar should take their trip within one year of receiving the award and is responsible for arranging all details for the trip.  The winner of this award will make a brief podium presentation describing the location of their travels, and the technique(s) learned, at the following year’s ASSH Annual Meeting (2025 in Vancouver, BC).  A one-page report summarizing where the scholar had travelled, what was learned, and how the information was put to use in the surgeon’s academic practice is also required.

    SELECTION

The winner of the Richard H. Gelberman Scholar Award will be chosen by the Gelberman Scholar Committee. The method of scoring will be determined by the Committee Chair. The winner will be notified shortly before the Annual meeting.
